YOUNG THUG. 20TH ANNIVERSARY ISSUE. (2019)

Before his ‘UY Scuti’ chapter, rewind to Young Thug’s 2019 FADER cover story.

Back then, he was preparing So Much Fun — a record that flipped Atlanta rap into something joyous and free. “I really didn’t think too much about it,” he told us. “It’s just fun music. You only should play this music when you’re having a good time.”

But Thug was never just chasing hits. Between building YSL and pushing fashion boundaries, he was also wrestling with feeling overlooked: “I relaxed, worked on my label… forgot about myself, felt like a lot of people forgot about me.”Still, his roots kept him grounded. “If you’re a truthful artist, you going to write about what you went through. I went through a lot.”

And he was already looking ahead, teasing a more vulnerable era with Punk: “Let people know that I’m not just a rapper, I’m a human being.”

There are lots of words that may run through your head as you buy tickets to a live concert in 2025 but “bargain” probably isn’t one of them. That’s what Michael Rapino, CEO at Live Nation, seems to think, though.

“We have a lot of runway left. So when you read about ticket prices going up, the average concert price is still $72. Try going to a Laker game for that, and there’s 80 of them. The concert is underpriced and has been for a long time,” he said at an industry event this month.

That $72 figure Rapino cited appears to be a little off. Full story at the link in bio.

Ethiopian Girl Skaters is one of the first female-only skateboarding groups in Ethiopia. This past week, Canadian R&B singer Chxrry, who’s of Ethiopian descent and the first female artist signed to The Weeknd’s XO Records, visited the group and gifted them 48 custom ‘chxrry’ boards.

“Honored to support their fearless energy and play a small part in their big world,” Chxrry shared.

Doja Cat stands by her album cover. After receiving backlash from fans about her ‘Vie’ album cover which she unveiled yesterday, the singer has responded to the critique. ‘Vie,’ Doja Cat’s fifth studio album, releases this Friday.

Alongside the release of the cover, Doja explained the meaning behind the artwork. “Falling in love is putting trust in the hands of yourself and others. The yellow parachute represents curiosity, happiness, and adventure. Flying you towards new experiences and scenes, taking a leap of faith, and holding no bounds. The tree represents life and wisdom. Giving you a sense of safety within its branches, but the pain from the fall teaches you that those scratches can be healed. You don’t have to hit the ground. Love grows upward but more importantly down. It’s the roots that keep you steady,” she said.

Since 2019, leaks from an unreleased Frank Ocean’s studio album could be found online for years. It was rumored that singles “DHL”, “In My Room”, “Dear April”, and “Cayendo” were apart of the lost project.

On Monday, Frank Ocean finally cleared the air via IG comments, sharing that most of the leaks were AI generated and that project title was designated for club nights in NYC, not a project.

Over 400 Hollywood stars are calling out Disney for suspending ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ in what they’re calling a “dark moment for freedom of speech.” The ACLU-backed open letter, signed by Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, Pedro Pascal, Ben Stiller and more, says government pressure on artists, journalists, and companies “strikes at the heart of what it means to live in a free country.”

Many others have been vocal in their support of Jimmy Kimmel including Barack Obama and Wanda Sykes.

The backlash follows ABC pulling Kimmel’s show after FCC chair Brendan Carr threatened licenses over his monologue on the MAGA response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Celebrities are now urging Americans to defend free speech, and some are even calling for a Disney boycott.

JADE’s duality is proof you can be poptastic and still stand up for what’s right.

During performances of her song “FUFN (F**k You For Now)”, including at this summer’s Glastonbury, she incorporated a segment where she reeled off a list of injustices, including transphobia, cuts to the welfare state, silencing protests, and “justifying genocide.”

She admits that people in the pop world have reached out and warned her to “be careful,” because when they did something similar “big opportunities” were taken away, but she remains vocal.

haloplus+ bring romance, chaos, and a sense of play to Copenhagen’s music scene.

Isa, Stine, and Joakim make deeply romantic yet slightly alien sounding music that feels both in line with that of the current wave of artists coming out of Denmark and completely idiosyncratic.

Get to know our latest Opener as they release their new album, ’Musicality.’
