I tried to make one single shaving in the last one. Cutting end grain can be both difficult and frustrating. It can also be very satisfying, it depends on the type of wood and chisel you’re using, as well as how sharp the chisel is. This is linden wood, so it’s quite soft.

Chisel work. Accidentally hit the camera with my mallet🔨I rarely cut out a mortise entirely by hand, but for this special project, it’s needed.

Three different oak boxes, five of each.

I finished them with Rubio monocoat oil plus 2C. I wanted a finish that keeps the natural look and feel of the wood while protecting it from moisture and everyday use.
