Church bells are ringing from the Old City to the valleys today. 🌿☦️

Syria is home to one of the oldest Christian communities on earth. For us, Palm Sunday isn’t just a date on the calendar, it’s a tradition that’s been woven into our soil for two thousand years.

Syrian Roots went to The Met, and found Syria.

The Damascus Room is there, a real reception room, qa‘a, from a large house in Damascus, Syria, dated 1119 A.H., A.D. 1707. You view it from the entrance, like a doorway into another century.

Then the real hunt started. Syrian connected works across the museum, labels, details, and stories hiding in plain sight.

Over 150 photos were taken, and they are being turned into a carousel series. Part 1 drops next. Each post breaks down what you are looking at, where it is from, and why it matters.

Syria and the SDF announced a ceasefire and a 14 point integration framework on January 18, 2026.

This came after days of fighting and rapid territorial shifts that included Tabqa and major oil and gas sites like Omar and Conoco. The framework says SDF forces withdraw east of the Euphrates and are merged into the Defense and Interior Ministries after vetting, ending the SDF as a separate armed structure.

It also calls for the handover of Deir al Zor and Raqqa, the integration of Hasakah’s civilian institutions with guarantees of local participation, the transfer of border crossings and energy sites, and Syrian state responsibility for ISIS detainees and camps. It includes the removal of non Syrian PKK affiliates.

The accord also references Decree 13, issued January 16, which expands Kurdish cultural and linguistic rights, restores citizenship for Kurdish residents affected by the 1962 Hasakah census measures, allows Kurdish language education, and makes Newroz a paid public holiday.

This is major. Syria has seen frameworks before, including a 2025 integration attempt that stalled. Now comes the part that counts. Turning words into safety, services, and real daily life for every Syrian.

Syrian forces say they carried out security sweeps in Sheikh Maqsoud, while other reporting says holdouts may remain.
