🎡 Dutchess County Fair opens TOMORROW. The 180th Dutchess County Fair runs August 25–30 at Dutchess County Fairgrounds, 6636 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY. Expect livestock, carnival rides, concerts, agricultural exhibits and family entertainment across six days. Dutchess Tourism confirms this as one of the Hudson Valley’s major late-summer events.

🎾 GO INSIDE THE US OPEN FOR FREE TOMORROW — ARTHUR ASHE KIDS’ DAY KICKS OFF FAN WEEK!

One of NYC’s biggest free tennis experiences returns Sunday, August 23, as Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day officially opens 2026 US Open Fan Week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.

Adults 18 and older need a 2026 Fan Access Pass to enter Fan Week. However, the US Open currently says new Fan Access Pass registrations are closed because of high demand. People who already registered can still retrieve their passes. Having a pass does not guarantee admission if the grounds reach capacity, so arriving early is smart.

🚇 Getting there: Public transportation is strongly recommended because parking is limited. Take the 7 train or LIRR to Mets–Willets Point, just steps from the tennis center.

🌊 A Bronx hidden gem that feels nothing like NYC — SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler.

I recently visited this waterfront corner of Throggs Neck in the Bronx, and the setting is beautiful. SUNY Maritime sits on a 55-acre peninsula overlooking the East River and Long Island Sound, with close-up views of the Throgs Neck Bridge and historic Fort Schuyler. It’s one of those places many New Yorkers have driven past without realizing what’s inside.

⚓ The best part for regular visitors: the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler is open to the public. You enter through the historic fort and can explore ship models, maritime artifacts, navigation equipment, artwork and exhibits covering the history of seafaring.

Historic Fort Schuyler, waterfront scenery, maritime history, unusual architecture and some seriously underrated Bronx views. It’s a particularly nice stop if you enjoy photography, ships, NYC history or finding places beyond the usual tourist list.

⚠️ Visitor tip: This is an active college campus, not a public waterfront park. The museum welcomes public visitors, but access to other parts of campus may be controlled. If you want to explore the wider campus, check with the Welcome Center or register for an official campus tour before going.
