“The Plot Twist” 🎬
I moved to the U.S. nearly x7 years ago to build an acting career. Then everything went virtual. 😷
So I adapted.
I learned tech - (kind of)
Editing - (got better)
Direction - (improv)
Audio engineering - (sort of)
Finding readers - (got resourceful)
And then came self-tape after self-tape.
Bedroom. Living room. Hotel rooms. Airport lounges. Conference rooms. Always in transit, with a tripod and ring light in tow.
Different characters, accents, setups, and versions of me, all auditioning from the other side of a screen.
There were plenty of moments when it felt as though I was moving further away from the dream I’d crossed an ocean to pursue. Moments spent balancing creative ambition with real life, rent, and the question of whether to keep going.
Then, after all these years… a sign of life. 🌱
An in-person audition. The only other one I’d had was on the day New York shut down in 2020.
So, yes! It was a treat to meet casting, connect with other actors, swap information, and make new friends. But it was also a reminder that sometimes progress doesn’t look like a straight line. Sometimes it looks like adapting, recalibrating, and continuing to show up.
That’s something I understand deeply, both personally and through my work with LemonAid.
I coach people through career transitions and uncertain chapters, helping them reconnect with their voice, clarify what comes next, and show up with confidence and presence.
Because the dream doesn’t always unfold the way you imagined. Sometimes the squeeze changes the shape of the journey, but that doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong road.
Here’s to all of us who’ve been staying in the room… whichever one is available.
Grateful to my lovely team Buchwald Commercial for continuing to champion me, and the warm welcome from Grande Morris Casting for a little slice of life from the good ol’ days! 🍋💦
