The Narratio community is filled with sadness and disbelief as we mourn the loss of our friend and 2019 Narratio Fellow, Jamal Bilata. Jamal was a quiet leader and community builder, who supported us all with patience and kindness.

Jamal’s life was taken this week in a hateful act of violence, but his light is inextinguishable and it will continue to shine through our community and collective work.

We offer our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Jamal. In this time of grief, we stand together as a community. Please reach out to us and to one another for support, and know that you are not alone in this shared sorrow.

Living Stories comes to Syracuse!

This past weekend, the Palace Theatre opened its doors for an evening of storytelling through poetry, music and dance featuring the Narratio Fellows, Ameen Mokdad & Cuatro Puntos, and Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet.

On Saturday, the team hosted a storytelling workshop at the Community Folk Art Center, focused on how poetry, music, and dance can come together across stories and lived experiences.

Thank you CFAC, Syracuse EHN, SU Humanities Center, our brilliant fellows, and all of our wonderful partners for making this event possible!

Every summer, Narratio Fellows in Richmond and Syracuse participate in a month-long series of daily workshops structured around the creation of individual and collective projects.

This past summer's intensives were led by artists in residence Alfonso Pérez Acosta (Richmond) and Wendy Wang and Maleeha Bhadki (Syracuse), who helped Fellows engage with their own stories and those of their families and communities via visual art, poetry, and photography.

Thank you to our partners Code^Shift, Virginia Museum of History and Culture, ReEstablish Richmond, and the North Side Learning Center and to our amazing team of mentors and facilitators for supporting Narratio Fellows across both sites.

Please join us TOMORROW, Thursday, March 30 from 6 - 8pm at Syracuse University’s Nancy Cantor Warehouse for a celebration of this year's Narratio Fellows!
