Any innovation requires people to do two things they really don't like doing, something they haven't done before, and something most people aren't doing.
Take Uber. It doesn't really change riding in a taxi.

Uber did not make taxis faster. It killed the anxiety of not knowing if one was coming. Apple did not build a more powerful computer. It asked how using one should feel. Rory Sutherland argues that almost every major innovation is someone noticing a metric everybody else has ignored and doubling down on it. The problem was always there. Nobody was looking at it.

It was a great pleasure to join Culture Design in Miami for a conversation more companies need to be having.

We spend an extraordinary amount of time discussing strategy, technology, and performance, while devoting remarkably little attention to the thing that influences all three: culture.

Intentional culture design may appear too cumbersome for most leaders. But opting out of designing your culture doesn’t mean you won’t have one. It simply means you’ve left something enormously consequential to chance. And we all know what happens when we let entropy lead the way...
