Big news for independent film — and for long-term creative partnership.

The Travel Companion, written and directed by Alex Mallis and Travis Wood, has been acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories (via Variety) after premiering at the Tribeca Festival in 2025.

The film was supported, with NEA funding, through BRIC TV’s Scripted Content Program, now in its 11th year, which champions local independent filmmakers and bold new narrative work.

BRIC has collaborated with Alex and Travis across multiple projects, including Dollar Pizza Documentary for our Frameworks documentary strand, the NY Emmy Award–winning One Peg Boss (Travis’ project), and Sector B (Alex’s project).

This is what sustained investment in artists looks like.

Keep an eye out for the next round of narrative film pitches supported by BRIC and the National Endowment for the Arts.
