๐จ๐ฆ Canada โ Engineers in a small northern Indigenous community have drilled a modest geothermal well specifically sized to heat the community's school and health center, replacing costly diesel heating that had strained the community's limited budget for years.
The well supplies heat through a small district loop connecting the two community buildings, sized appropriately for a small population rather than requiring a large commercial-scale project. Community members monitor heating performance and fuel savings through the winter.
The remote community had relied entirely on diesel heating shipped in at significant cost, straining limited community resources every winter. Community leaders describe the geothermal well as finally giving them reliable, affordable heat they control themselves.
The school and health center report notably lower heating costs and more consistent warmth this winter. With results proving successful, the community is planning to extend the heating loop to more buildings.
