I LOVE WHEN I MESS UP EXPENSIVE FABRICCCC 😀😀😀

Whew, this is a throwback to making my green silk gown last year, and I made a BIG OOPSIE 😅

We all make mistakes, but this one definitely hurt 😂 but we got through it, and the gown turned out beautifully!

A beautiful dress doesn’t mean a beautiful life, a log cabin doesn’t mean peace, and a wide open landscape doesn’t mean freedom.

We have romanticized the American frontier for generations. The cabins, the handmade clothes, the horses, the endless landscape. The idea of leaving everything behind and beginning again.

But there is blood beneath that beautiful image.

For Indigenous peoples, the expansion of the United States meant the theft of homelands, forced removal, broken treaties, massacres, and the destruction of communities and cultures. Their lives, lands, and sacrifices were not an unfortunate footnote to westward expansion. They were at the center of it.

And for Black Americans, the frontier was never simply a land of freedom and opportunity. It was shaped by slavery and emancipation, racism and violence, displacement and segregation, but also by Black people determined to build something of their own.

And still, there was moments of beauty.

People loved each other. They raised children, celebrated, and dreamed. They found moments of joy in places and circumstances that could be extraordinarily cruel.

That’s what I find so fascinating about history. The beautiful and the horrific can exist in the same frame. History doesn’t become less beautiful when we tell the whole truth.

It becomes human.
