This baenid (we think) turtle is from the late Cretaceous! Baenidae lived with the dinosaurs, survived the asteroid extinction event, and died out 40 million years ago. A great find by ! @67.million.mac and .payton excavated this specimen as well 🤝.

We found this Triceratops femur eroding at the surface! Along with a metatarsal and some other miscellaneous chunks. Stay tuned as I dig in to the bone layer and uncover more of Triceratops “Anne”!

and discover 500 million year old trilobite fossils at Oak Springs Trilobite Site off US 93 near Caliente, Nevada. You can dig for your own fossils and keep them! The trilobites are within layers of shale, so it is best to bring a rock hammer to split the layer apart, revealing these ancient specimens from the Cambrian.

Make sure that you are adequately hydrated! Stop in the nearby town of Caliente to gas up, cool off, and grab some food! This is an awesome fossil hunting experience as you travel Nevada.

CT scanning fossils has got to be one of the most fulfilling feelings. All of the dusty, dirty, and rugged work is finalized in a clean and technological setting. Thank you for scanning the specimens and having such an interest in paleontooogy! Stay tuned for work by on the scans and the foundations of my research.

and visit the to see the incredible marine reptile fossils on display in the exhibit Deep Time: Sea Dragons of Nevada. This exhibit showcases the remarkable ichthyosaurs(Nevada’s state fossil) and other various marine reptiles found in the Augusta Mountains. Some specimens are being shown to the public for the first time!

Go and see this gem of Nevadas prehistoric majesty until January 11, 2026! Get out there and !

On my tenth birthday in 2006, I visited the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota. This legendary place was one of the major localities bolstering my passion for paleontology at a young age. Its elegance and mystery added to the nearly mythical aspect of the surrounding area. The Black Hills is the realm of legends, of titans, of history both far and near to us. This island in the plains is sacred.

Thank you for giving an excellent tour of the museum and collections!
