A New Jersey man has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison after authorities say he helped launder money tied to multiple internet fraud schemes.

Federal prosecutors announced that Kenny Osas Okuonghae, 38, of Edison, was sentenced to 51 months in prison for conspiring to launder funds obtained through online scams, including romance scams, rental scams, and so-called “pig butchering” investment schemes.

▪️ 51 months in federal prison
▪️ 3 years of supervised release
▪️ $1,275,190 in restitution

According to court documents, investigators say Okuonghae used multiple bank accounts across several financial institutions to move proceeds generated from internet-based fraud operations between 2019 and 2023.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Newark Field Office and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.
