🚨 NJ RECAP ALERT 🚨
A 2026 U.S. Senate candidate is alleging that police officers and mall security followed her after she was ordered to leave Menlo Park Mall during a petition-signing effort.
Lily Benavides, leader of the Green Party of New Jersey, posted a livestream claiming Edison police and mall security personnel followed her through the parking lot after she and volunteers were told to leave the property.
According to Benavides, the incident occurred on May 31 while campaign volunteers were collecting signatures for her Senate campaign near Barnes & Noble. She accused officers and security personnel of harassment and questioned why they continued following her after she complied with the order to leave.
The incident has sparked debate online over whether authorities were enforcing a trespass order or went beyond what was necessary.
