Dear sons and daughters of the Tombel Municipality,

For too long, we have allowed politics to divide what development should unite. Yet, the Council was never meant to be a battlefield for political parties. It was designed to be a tool for progress; a place where we can come together to address our shared needs, such as roads, water, jobs and dignified living conditions.

- Development has no political colour.
- Water does not ask for your party card.
- A road does not check your political affiliation before serving you.

What truly develops a municipality is people-driven leadership : leadership that listens to, mobilises and works alongside the population.

This is the story of Mr Ediage Herbert.

Across Nyasoso, Tombel and Kupe Muanenguba, his record speaks for itself. As head of several development associations, he did not make empty promises or seek personal glory. He arrived with a simple philosophy: *when the people are involved, development lasts* . Projects were conceived, carried out and protected by the community.

Today, Ediage Herbert is offering to bring this same mindset to the Tombel Council, a council that belongs to all of us. His vision is clear: a council that works with the people, not above them.

This includes opening and maintaining our roads, tackling persistent water challenges, empowering our young people and women with skills and opportunities, and managing council resources transparently and efficiently. Ediage Herbert embodies competence with compassion, experience with integrity, and leadership grounded in service.

This is not about left or right.
It's not about party loyalty.
This is about Tombel’s future.
Let us choose progress over politics.

P.W. Botha, the former South African president, made a controversial statement in 1988 about African leaders:

"The black man is not ready to govern himself because he lacks the mental capacity to run a society. Give him a gun, he'll shoot himself. Give him power, he'll steal all the government's money; Give him independence and democracy, he'll use it to promote tribalism, ethnicity, hatred, killings, and wars!"

This was a racist statement reflecting his apartheid ideology but it's the reality of most African leaders today.

Thomas Sankara's famous quote about African leaders :

"He who feeds you, controls you". He also said, "We must dare to invent the future" and "You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness"

Regarding African leaders and debt, he urged them to refuse paying foreign debt, saying African countries should create a "united front" against it. He believed the poor shouldn't repay money to the rich and exploiting nations.

This is simply the reality today.
