Bangem Council Lays Foundation for Landmark 60-Meter Bridge Over River Moungo!
In a momentous event set to radically transform connectivity and ease suffering, the Bangem Council has officially launched construction works for a critical infrastructure project: a two-lane, 60-meter bridge over the majestic River Moungo in Mombo Bajoh. This vital structure will finally and firmly link the Bangem municipality with the Konye administrative unit.
🎉 Mayor Ekungwe: Project Ownership is Key!
The highly anticipated launching ceremony took place on December 5, 2025, right on the banks of the river in Mombo.
The Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Christopher Kang, presided over the event. In his compelling address, he extended heartfelt gratitude to the Mombo and Ekona Bajoh communities for their overwhelming and enthusiastic turnout. Mayor Ekungwe strongly urged the local populace to take full ownership of the project, stressing that community involvement is the cornerstone of its ultimate success.
🤝 Project Details and Commitment
The Divisional Delegate of Public Works for Kupe Muanenguba, Shu Reny, provided a crucial briefing, outlining the detailed project description and the critical ex*****on deadlines for the benefit of the local communities.
The Contractor, Enongene Lucas, stood before the Mayor and the beaming community members, promising that the works would be carried out with utmost efficiency and strictly within the set deadlines.
🙏 Blessings and Ancestral Guidance
The event was marked by spiritual blessings. Rev. Mbide Calvin, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church Mombo, offered a powerful prayer for God’s guidance and protection to ensure the project reaches a successful completion. He also reminded the beneficiaries of their duty to be loyal and responsible citizens of the state.
Following the Christian prayer, the Head of the Mombo Bajoh traditional council performed a sacred libation, appealing to the ancestors to guide and safeguard the contractor and the dedicated workers throughout the construction process.
The traditional ruler of Ekona Bajoh expressed profound gratitude to both the government and the Bangem Council for delivering this "lasting bridge project" that will finally connect their villages. They seized the opportunity to formally request more priority projects, specifically calling for renewable energy solutions and the construction of a necessary road linking Mombo and Ekona Bajoh.
😭 End of the Dangerous Hamock Bridge Era!
Speaking exclusively to Bangem People TV, Ekomengode Francis of Mombo Bajoh could not contain his joy, jubilating that the construction of this two-lane bridge marks the definitive end of their long-standing suffering.
He painfully recounted how for over twenty years without a proper bridge, the communities had been forced to rely on a dangerous local hamock bridge over the river, which they constructed themselves. Ekomengode explained the immense hardship of transporting their cocoa on their heads, navigating the perilous crossing over the years.
> “I am overwhelmed with joy. This new bridge will enable us to reach the market easily with our food and cash crops. Our area is so enclaved. We are pleading with the Mayor to also open our roads. As at now, a vehicle has never come to our village. We have to trek for several kilometers from our village to other villages to use a road,” Ekomengode passionately pleaded, highlighting the urgent need for road connectivity.
The ceremony concluded with a touching show of appreciation: the vibrant rural women of the community took pride in decorating the Mayor, the Delegate of Public Works, the Contractor, and some local elites with the traditional grass necklace. This beautiful gesture was a powerful, local mark of great achievement, progress, success, and strength.
