Since Coleman was first elected to the commission in 2014, he's been accused of:
• Calling a neighbor, Shelby Powell, wanting to fight him and threatening to kick his “f****** teeth in” for being forced to comply with a record request for text messages. Records show Powell called sheriff's deputies after the call and a screenshot from Powell's phone shows a call from Coleman's phone.
• Repeatedly making bigoted remarks to a city of Newberry employee from Pakistan, calling him "Swahili," "Omar" instead of his name, which is Taymour, and insisting that he do an ululation, a high-pitched sound often associated with Middle Eastern weddings and funerals. City officials had Coleman apologize to the employee. The employee, Taymour Khan, said during the apology, Coleman kept calling him "Omar," and that the apology was worse than the initial encounter. Coleman said he was sincere in his apology, and legitimately didn't know the employee's name.
"You gotta understand the liberals that live here hate the good ol' boys,” Rick Coleman told The Sun Friday.
