I get asked about lighting and gear a lot, plus this is the only thing I can confidently speak on… so here ya go!
I wanted a lot of contrast mixed with soft shadows, so I combined an off-camera softbox for shape and a little fill, plus on-camera flash to pop color and separate the model from the background since the light was pretty dull and flat this day. (except on a few of these, where I didn’t add the on camera flash, so you find a more prominent background shadow)
For the slow shutter images I’m mainly using aperture to expose from image to image
For the crisp shots I’m using a higher iso so I can pull from the shadows a little more and have a little more room in post.
