18 years... Our relationship is old enough to vote 👀
Our relationship is older than either of us were when we started going out. And I knew him for six months before he asked me out.
I've spent more of my life with him than both my parents... combined 😅
Our anniversary was last week, but we both worked all day and then we ended up angry at each other. 😅
One of the things we've learned over the years is sometimes we don't like being around each other. It never lasts long, but we're both human and it's important to give space for that.
Loving someone doesn't mean you're never upset with them.
When we were able to talk about why we were mad, we realized we were angry that we didn't get to be together.
We both recognized how disappointed we were and made plans to make up for it later in the month.
When we first met in highschool we were the walking talking definition of a trauma bond. Insecure, afraid, desperate, and full of unknown triggers.
Our early 20s were a wild storm of breaking habits, identifying thinking patterns that were hurting us and learning new ways to love each other and ourselves.
We realized very early on that we wanted our lives to look different.
We were together for five years before Scarlette came into our lives. It was the biggest motivation to fix us.
Neither of us had ever really seen a healthy relationship irl.
So we went to therapy. We went to trauma trainings. We learned about financial tools and new ways to handle money. We read books and found communities of people who had successful healthy relationships.
We figured out what we wanted our lives to actually look like and we've been building it ever since.
Life isn't always easy, but knowing I have a partner who supports me and my dreams makes the impossible seem possible, ya know?
I'm so grateful to call this man mine, even when he pi**es me off 😅
