In tonight's City Council meeting in Newton, they will be voting to force an electrification of all new buildings (residential and commercial) in Newton.
Here is what I wrote to the elected representatives who are voting on this:

Councilors:
As a long-time Newton taxpayer as well as an academically and viscerally educated person, I implore all twenty-four Newton city councilors to take a long summer's pause before voting to impose item #49-24 electrification ordinance on the residential and commercial property owners in our city.
There still exists a lack of consensus amidst the ongoing worldwide discussion in the scientific and engineering communities about the causes of climate change. In addition, we are subject to the increasing instability and fragility of the national electric grid infrastructure and what powers that. These two things should give you enough pause when asked to hold off before voting toward making a possible mistake for the City of Newton.
Please do not make your personal political choice a hard position choice for all of us.
