2024 REFERENDUM EXPLANATION

1. The Referendum gives "We the People" a voice about what WE want – whether for or against. According to the Declaration of Independence, government derives "it's just powers by the CONSENT of the governed". Many of us no longer consent to being governed by the Cook County-dominated legislature which seems unaware of how differently the rest of the state lives, our values and morals, or how laws for the city of Chicago are inappropriate and oppressive to the rest of the state.

2. This is a non-binding referendum and does not make the split happen but is an important first step. The vote assesses the will of "We the People" and informs local, state, and federal officials.

3. The Referendum gives county boards and commissioners a "seat at the table" to discuss the possibility of separating.

4. We are aware debt and pension obligations will need to be divided fairly, and there are the universities and prisons to consider.

5. We are aware Cook County contributes a sizable amount to the Illinois coffers; however, Cook also has significant expenses, such as debt, and pension load. There are areas we would save money by separating. With different laws, we would attract businesses.

6. AFTER the will of "We the People" is known through voting, THEN discussions about finances can begin. Until voting, we cannot begin to know which counties are in favor of exploring statehood or what we have to work with. Passing the Referendum gives local officials consent and direction from its citizens to communicate with other consenting counties about assets, liabilities, and other details.

7. It is our Constitutional, first Amendment right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Because of the Chicago-dominated legislature, we see no way to have those grievances resolved other than through forming a new state.

8. Our goal is to restore the state to alignment with the U. Constitution. and return more power to the county level.

9. If the county officials vote to approve putting the Referendum on ballots, a "YES" vote means the official is in favor of allowing citizens opportunity to be heard at the ballot box, whether for or against exploring the possibility of separation. If you are a McDonough registered voter, it wouldn't hurt to POLITELY encourage your district's county board member/s to vote "yes" so you have the opportunity to vote on our Referendum.

Members of Mr. Cook's district was asking him about this, so he asked me to come present it.

Thanks to AL LASHBROOK for coming to the meeting as a county resident. He reminded them of "Forgottonia" - which this is not like, but shows we are NOT HAPPY with IL government. If they want to view this as a protest vote, they wouldn't be the first.

It was nice to actually go to a meeting where was a familiar face -- and more than that -- a friend and longtime supporter of the movement.
It is great to have him involved again.

We met in Knox County in September 2019, LiberTEA Fest. The first booth I ever did for the movement. He volunteered to drive up from Fulton County and help. It was great to meet him. A friend from Newton drove me up since my car was totaled in an accident. A separatist friend drove up from Fayette County.

Al tried very hard to get it on the ballot in Fulton in 2019-2020.. He did petitions. He presented to the board in 2020. He had never done ANY public speaking before! The Fulton board did not take any action. The county clerk wanted 900 more signatures than what he had. :-( Discouraging!

He took time off from doing ISR for a while. Then he moved to McDonough and settled in. When I let him know about this meeting, he was happy to know and come.

We did some reminiscing before and after the committee.
"Remember at LiberTEA Fest the first thing I said in my speech was, 'I won't be taking any questions' --
Because I didn't know enough to answer?" Lol
He nodded with a smile.
"That's changed."
[I had only been on the page since Feb and helping since May.]

A lot has changed in ISR since 2019, and we hope for more in the future.

Comparison of Congressional Districts. One of the goals for our new state is to restore representational government in which the voter's choose their representatives rather than the government choosing their voters.

Is anyone else noticing there are a lot of videos this year of real American history? Before 1776 and the first 10-15 years? I am loving it! So many I had not thought about in decades, things forgotten, of thing I never knew. These often remind me that separation from England was not one of decisive, bold writing with a stoke of a quill pen or a dramatic cutting as if with a slash of the sword. Those things were done and they mattered. But BECOMING America ... that was a slow, unsteady, messy, rough process that had its share of conflict.

It makes me think the same (minus war),! will be true of us becoming separate from ️Cook. It took our Forefathers several years to figure it out. In fact, there were things that were a process of trial, error, and correction.
Likewise, we should not think we must know the answer to every question before beginning our quest for statehood.

In 1781 the Continental Congress ratified the Articles of Confederation, the United States’ first national charter. Over the next eight years the Articles pr...

MONROE County Commissioners voted UNANIMOUSLY (3:0) to put the referendum on their ballot.

Be sure to read the words on the pictures.

On the LRU map ...
🟥⬛️🟦🟩 please
notice MONROE was = to the Collar Counties in $ (but read the cautionary statements--they admit the map isn't the full Revenue or Disbursements.)

Thanks to Lori Fuller (from Madison County) for initiating setting up a ISR petitioning table in St. Clair County at a signing event for candidates. Because she did, she met one of the Monroe County commissioners. She asked if she could come present this to them. He said, "Yes" so she went last month.

HISTORY:
2019/20 - A Monroe Co. individual spoke to a commissioner about it.

2021/22 - Petitions sent.

2024 - a former city alderman made copies of our handouts and dropped off to the three commissioners individually.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
If you want this on your ballot, use our materials in an official presentation to your county board or commissioners so everyone hears amd sees the same information and it is part of public record.

Deadline for board resolutions:
🟩 August 17, 2026

05/17/2026

This coming week will be a busy one with board presentations and board actions in various parts of the state! Others will happen after that and before the 3rd Monday of August!

Prayer appreciated ...

1. For ISR Presenters --especially first-timers who have never done any public speaking!
🙏 Pray they will read calmly, clearly and with sufficient volume but not yelling, of course.

2. For County Commissioners and County Board Members who are listening to their first presentation of ISR --
🙏 Pray they will shut out misinformation from the media or others and hear the facts.

3. For County Commissioners and County Board Members who are voting --
🙏 Pray they will understand they are voting on a resolution that gives their constituents opportunity to have a voice at the ballot box.

HISTORIAL FACT:
Benjamin Franklin, at age 81, gave this speech on June 28, 1787, to resolve disagreements among the delegates at the Constitutional Convention. He recalled the daily prayers in that same place during the war. His speech urged daily prayer as part of the convention.

He argued that without divine assistance, the new American government would fail, just as the builders of Babel failed. The quote is widely recognized from records of the Constitutional Convention regarding the role of prayer in public life. "I have lived ... a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God Governs the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?"

Likewise, is it probable that a new state can rise without His aid? 🙏🙏🙏
