🍂 Featured Article | Finest Fall Food

Andrea Esposito, Ristorante LUCCA Executive Chef, cooks up an appealing autumn menu.

Hailing from the charming coastal town of Monte di Procida in the province of Naples, Andrea Esposito has embraced his lifelong passion for cooking — beginning with the art of pizza — nurtured by his family and rooted in the rich culinary traditions of southern Italy. He presently serves as executive chef at Ristorante LUCCA in Bordentown, New Jersey. There, he blends authentic Neapolitan flavors with refined technique, offering guests a true taste of Italy.

“For this fall, I’m doing my research, and together with my food provisioners, we’re finding the freshest vegetables and best choices for fish and meats to fuse them to make unique, delicious appetizers and entrees,” he says.

“One given direction for the fall is showcasing pumpkin as a key ingredient and dish because it reflects the season so well. This gives our patrons new items to choose from and enjoy; that’s my goal and I take this responsibility very seriously.”

🍂🍝 Featured Article | New On Menu at Piccolo

Piccolo Trattoria, a member of the Newtown community since 2001, is highlighting new menu items this fall.

Fami and Amali Elabed, the restaurant’s co-owners, designed dishes and drinks with the flavors of fall in mind. The menu features butternut squash sautéed with imported pancetta, fresh sage and walnuts in honey brown butter sauce topped with burrata cheese.

“For fall, butternut squash is the natural star,” Amali explains. “It’s earthy, slightly sweet and comforting. From there, we layered flavors and textures that balance and elevate it.”

“It’s the perfect balance of sweet, savory and nutty,” Fami adds. “You get the natural sweetness of the squash and honey, the salty depth of pancetta, the herbal lift of sage and the toasted crunch of walnuts all enveloped in silky brown butter and topped with the lush creaminess of burrata. Every bite feels layered and comforting, yet vibrant.”

🥓🥃 Bacon Me Crazy drink: bacon fat, washed Maker’s Mark bourbon, maple syrup and Angostura bitters, garnished with a fresh piece of bacon.

“When creating cocktails, we look for ways to surprise people while still keeping drinks approachable,” Fami explains. “This one is all about balance: the smoky, savory notes of bacon play against the sweetness of the maple, while the bourbon provides warmth and body.”

Culinary Artist Dan Macey Shares Tips About Presenting Food For The Senses

One would never know it by viewing Dan Macey’s talented work, but food styling wasn’t his first career choice. Although he says he always enjoyed cooking and food design from a young age, he actually started as a journalist covering energy issues in Washington, DC. He eventually tired of that work and after moving to New Hope, contacted cookbook author and fellow resident Pam Anderson, the editor of Cook’s Illustrated magazine.

“She kindly connected me to freelancing assignments for restaurant industry publications,” he says.

“The desire to know what something tastes like is a universal trait for all humans and making that bite visually appealing is the first step in making you want to eat it,” he notes. He says he also pays attention to taste memory to create food that spurs a past connection.

👨‍🍳 DAN’S FOOD STYLING TIPS FOR HOME COOKS:

▫️Think of the plate as an artist’s palette; use a variety of colors.

▫️Don’t overcrowd the plate; negative space is positive space.

▫️Serve food on vessels made from natural materials with texture, such as ceramic.
Don’t over-sauce food so you can’t see the ingredients.

▫️Use condiments to create interesting dressings, sauces and add-ins to dress up plain food.

▫️Make your family feel special by occasionally pulling out your ‘good’ dishes.

▫️Celebrate smaller life events with themed meals or table settings.

▫️Present meat cut into slices on the bias and fan out on a plate versus serving as a big piece.

▫️Enhance the appearance of food with garnishes of herbs, fruit slices or a drizzle of sauce.

“Clients are increasingly asking for simple, clean visuals with subtle character,” says MaryAnne. “There’s an overall movement to more natural, warmer undertones, a light, airier wood tone, soft blondes and washed neutrals.”
“We at Applegate Wood Floors have only two real passions: wood floors and our clients,” Brian says. “We offer a vast array of wood species in a wide range of widths, finishes and grades to suit any taste and lifestyle.”
“We’ve restored and refinished thousands of existing hardwood floors, the oldest being a 200-year-old chestnut floor,” MaryAnne says. “The value of hardwood stems from its natural authenticity, and if properly maintained, it can last for hundreds of years.”
“Hardwood flooring continues to be the top choice for homeowners as the ultimate complement to personal design and style, and is the flooring of choice because of its natural beauty, enduring quality, warmth and inherent durability,” Brian adds. “This is an investment in your home that lasts for years and offers timeless style.”

New ADHD Group Offered Among Other Newtown Therapy and Wellness Center Services

Newtown Therapy and Wellness Center providers work with children, adolescents and adults in individual, couples, group and family sessions.
In today’s world, children and teens face unique stressors, from lingering social and academic impacts of COVID-19 disruptions to constant pressures and comparisons created by social media and digital life, says Stacy.
While each child’s different, Kathryn says some signs that extra support may be needed include sudden changes in moods or behaviors, withdrawing from friends or family, persistent worry or sadness, difficulties sleeping, frequent headaches or stomach-aches, changes in eating habits, dramatic weight loss, trouble concentrating in school or acting out in disruptive or aggressive ways.
