Thursday’s Short Take from Niagara Express
I intended to be gone by this morning but it didn’t happen because of my day job. So here is an unplanned short take.
There will be a vote tonight on authorizing Mayor Robert Restaino to spend $4 million of our money to acquire land on which he intends to build a $150 million hockey rink (his supporters call it an “event center.”) There has been no feasibility study released. He likely has the votes of Perry and Bax in his pocket. Archie and Myles stand with the taxpayers. Zajac, running for reelection, is the swing vote. My prediction: It gets pulled last minute when Perry realizes he doesn’t have the votes the Mayor needs because Zajac can't rubberstamp tomfoolery and expect to win in November.
Preservation Buffalo Niagara honored Matt and Cherrish Beals for their continuing improvement of the Marshall House in the Park Place Historic District. Watch the Gazette, if you still paste its URLs into www.removepaywall.com to see if Mark Scheer misspells Cherrish’s first name.
Short Take Politics: End of the road for Elon; ‘Oura’ ring may be unhealthy; What's in that 'Big, Beautiful Bill'
Short Take Sports: Hard Knocks for the Bills; Dawkins award becomes reality; Howard reviews the offense.
