The Rise of the Autocrat, which is the first book of the trilogy, chronicles the political ascent of J. Chris Stephens, a charismatic power-hungry prosecutor with a strong political acumen. Graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in political science and a law degree from Yale University; J. Chris commenced his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Richmond, Virginia, where he would build a reputation as a cutthroat prosecutor. He rarely lost cases and his track-record of securing convictions paved his way to politics as he would eventually become a State Senator.

To become State Senator, rather than sticking to the conventional approach to getting elected, J. Chris resorted to unscrupulous methods that led to the removal and political demise of his opponents. As a State Senator, J. Chris demonstrated his ability to understand human psychology and used his charm, deceit, fear, and intimidation to gain favors as he ruthlessly eliminated his political opponents from electoral processes to win elections and secure power. This enabled him to eventually become Majority Leader of the Republican Party in the Virginia legislature, a position in which he would use to consolidate power and dominate the Virginia Senate for nearly a decade.

“An Economic Analysis of Suicide” is a bold attempt to explain from an economic perspective the factors that contribute to su***de. In doing so, the author offers such explanations from an Austrian lens. The main thesis of the book argues that the existence of the State itself is the primary factor driving suicidality. According to the author, the State, as an organization which holds legal monopoly on violence, drives people to su***de through its punitive laws and policies that eventually affect human flourishing.
