Dock Talk 👀⚓

So here’s one for the offshore history buffs…

While we were hanging out at Planks, a gentleman stopped by and dropped a little piece of dock talk that caught our attention. According to him, the legendary offshore boat Medicine Man may be back on the water somewhere along the East Coast of Lake Michigan.

If memory serves me right, he mentioned the Holland area, but don’t hold us to that just yet.

Now, whether it’s the original boat, a restoration, or simply a rumor floating around the docks, we couldn’t help but smile hearing the name. For many offshore fans, Medicine Man was one of those boats that helped define an era—one of those names that instantly takes you back to the golden days of offshore racing.

So we’re throwing it out to the boating community…

Have you seen Medicine Man lately?

Is she running around Holland? Grand Haven? Muskegon? Somewhere else along Lake Michigan?

Drop a photo, a location, or a story below. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from doing As The Prop Turns, it’s that every legendary boat has another chapter waiting to be told.

Sometimes the best stories don’t start in the pits… they start with dock talk. 🌊🏁

We’ll be there. 🏁

If your story has a cool boat the world needs to see, that’s what we do.

As The Prop Turns is boat racers telling boat stories — the builds, the history, the people, the pits, and the legends behind them.

Got a boat with a story? Come find us. 🌊🎙️

🎙️🏁 As The Prop Turns – American Custom Marine

We recently spent some time with Mike and Tyler at American Custom Marine, and what an experience it was.

From the moment we walked through the doors, it was obvious this wasn’t just another boat shop. Every boat, every rigging project, every detail reflected the passion and craftsmanship that have made ACM a destination for performance boaters across the country.

But what impressed us most was the people.

Mike and Tyler took the time to show us around, talk boating, share stories, and give us a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into keeping some of the most incredible boats on the water performing at the highest level.

And the good news?

This won’t be the last time you’ll see them on As The Prop Turns.

We’ll be catching up with the ACM crew next week at LOTO, where racers, crews, and fans will gather for one of the most anticipated weekends of the season.

Then we’ll meet up again in July at Boyne Thunder, where we’ll be diving into the poker run world and talking with boat owners about the stories behind their boats.

Because that’s what we love most.

Every boat has a story.

The race boats. The poker run boats. The garage builds. The dream projects.

Behind every hull is a memory, a family, a friendship, or a lifelong dream that deserves to be told.

We’re looking forward to sharing those stories with all of you.

See you at LOTO.

See you at Boyne Thunder.

And as always…

⚓️ Keep the props turning.

We made the trip up and over to St. Clair, grabbed some coney dogs, and met up with Brian Klinec and Ed Smith to talk racing, the state of the IHRA series, and where racers are standing as the season continues to unfold.

One thing became very clear during our conversations: racers genuinely love St. Clair.

Unfortunately, after Blue Water Offshore chose to move forward with OPA, St. Clair is officially off the IHRA schedule. That’s a tough pill to swallow for many teams because this race had all the ingredients to become one of the biggest boat-count events of the season. With its central location, incredible waterfront, passionate fan base, and deep offshore racing roots, many racers believed St. Clair could have been the race that brought everyone together.

This isn’t a knock on the city. Quite the opposite.

St. Clair has always welcomed offshore racers with open arms. The community supports the teams, the fans line the shoreline, and the city embraces the sport in a way that few places can. That’s exactly why so many racers are disappointed. The city deserved a packed field of boats and a weekend that showcased the very best of offshore racing.

But racers are racers, and before long the conversation shifted from politics and schedules to what racers do best—talking a little smack.

Brian Klinec and Ed Smith didn’t disappoint.

Predictions were made.

Shots were fired.

Confidence was high.

And somehow both men seemed absolutely convinced they would be the ones standing on top when the season is over.

With St. Clair now behind us, all eyes turn toward Lake of the Ozarks—better known around here as “The Dam Race.”

Boats are being prepped. Trailers are being loaded. Crews are making final adjustments. And the talk in the pits is getting louder by the day.

At the end of it all, the message from racers remains pretty simple:

We just want to race.

We want consistency.

We want a series we can count on.

We want to put on a show for the fans.

And we want to settle the arguments the only way racers know how—on the water.

Sorry, St. Clair. Many of us believe you were on your way to becoming one of the biggest races of the year.

Now let’s get ready for The Dam Race.
