I recently started noticing that the nail on my right hand’s ring finger had been tapping the tops of my flat top acoustics when I play, causing a clicking sound. I don’t know how long it’s been happening but once I noticed it, it had to go. I tried trimming the nail back as far as I could without bleeding but that didn’t do it and trying to change how I held my hand didn’t work either. So I got some rubber thimbles to see if that would do the trick and they’ve been successful in silencing the clicking sounds but the jury is still out on how comfortable they are. Time will tell.

It’s another crappy night out there. I was hoping to get into Troy to our friend’s open mic at Mt Ida but I don’t feel like dealing with all that slop out there. made some fantastic Italian Wedding Soup so that was another thing anchoring me at home. I ended up messing around with some of the tracks I’ve started for Volume 2 of “Witch Hats and Chickenheads”

Last summer, toward the end of my tenure with .belle.curves we started stretching out “Left Unsaid” so I could do some soloing. The 7-4-1 chord progression is my favorite so would let it rip haha.

It’s been a great, creative weekend and I’m not done yet. I did a lot of writing and recording and now I’m taking a break and later on I’ll be sifting through old demos to see if there’s anything I may have forgotten about. But today I drew inspiration from an unlikely source for me: Mike Campbell and his wiggly Bigsby parts on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “You Got Lucky” and some 12 string Rickenbacker action. 👍🏼

It’s a new year and the creative juices are flowing. I came up with a new little thing the other night and immediately set about recording it, something I don’t think I’ve done too often. I wasn’t sure if I’d still like it when I returned to it today but it blew me away. I just finished writing the other parts that I’ll probably overdub this weekend but for now I made a quick recording of them so they’re locked away. 👍🏼
