Every Sunday, the widow came to visit him. Almost a year had passed since her husband was gone, but she hadn’t missed a single week. Black dress, black scarf, fresh flowers—everything was just as always. Only her heart was growing heavier each time. Today, like usual, she carried a bunch of gladioli in her hands, quietly stepping over the gravel path between the rows of tombstones.
But as soon as she reached her husband’s grave, something felt off. At first, she thought it was a trick of the light. Then she squinted—and her heart dropped.
