“There is a time in the last few days of summer when the ripeness of autumn fills the air, and time is quiet and mellow.” -Rudolfo Anaya

In the last week school has started and we moved into our new home! Well, it’s not “new” 👀it was built in the 1800s 😍 There’s some work to do but it has lots of New England character, creaky floors and all!

But finally fit in a mini adventure last night in the mindst of the recent commotion and caught a little glimpse of a sunset.

If you haven’t checked out my farm trails in CT post, comment ➡️ SAVE 🌟and I’ll send it to you (check your messages). And this is the first farm on the list!

Fall planning is here 😍 Starting with a post all about visiting Stowe in the fall. You won’t find the usual ride the gondola and visit the cider mill kind of suggestions - though you can do that too!

Stowe is popular for a reason, but there’s so much more to see beyond the usual spots that are often shared.

I was determined to find lesser known places and visit the more popular ones at the right time to avoid the huge crowds. From beautiful hikes, quiet morning walks, the best bakeries and cafes, scenic drives and places to take in the fall colors. 🥾📸

I put all of our favorite spots + a full 3-day fall itinerary together which you can find on my website earlybirdonthetrail.com OR….

The week before school starts and I had to get my steps in. Here are a few fun spots we hiked this past week in CT. They’re pretty short and easy to fit in after work time!🌲🌲

🥾New England Trail: CT Section 21, Suffield, 2.5 miles

🥾Hatchett Hill, East Granby, 1.5 miles (multiple routes to this lookout on my website earlybrdonthetrail.com)

🥾Whitaker Woods to McCann Family Farm, Somers, 3.3-mile loop

Hope we all get to do more fun ones this week! ❤️

🌾Coastal hike & fun day trip along the southeastern tip of CT 🌊

Went to Mystic last Sunday morning and it was SO busy- the dogs and I high-tailed it out of there for a quieter walk and visit in the nearby town of Stonington! Just minutes away..

And what a pretty town! There’s more to see & do here but here are a few things we did:

🥾Hike at Barn Island Wildlife Management Area 🌿🌊
This 1,000+ acre coastal preserve has wide, mostly flat trails that wind through woods and beautiful salt marshes. The Barn Island Loop is an easy 2.9 miles or you can extend your adventure with a longer 5.2-mile loop through the preserve. Honestly, we only made it in about a mile and turned around because it was super humid and a bit buggy 😱 But it seems worth it to me to go back and do the full loop when it’s cooler.

🛍️☕️ Shop, eat, and get your coffee at The Velvet Mill The Velvet Mill (dog-friendly!)
This historic mill from the 1800s has been transformed into a creative space filled with local artists, small businesses, shops and places to eat! It’s dog-friendly, too! 🐶
I didn’t have nearly enough time to check out all the shops in here but particularly loved Granary Antiques.

🍅🌻 Last stop was a visit to Stone Acres Farm which had food trucks and lots of local produce and goodies inside the farm shop. Stone Acres

I’d say it was a good day, even though it’s a little bit of a drive for us to get out to this corner of Connecticut. We’ll be back!💗

✅💚Save for a fun day trip to Stonington, Connecticut!

And follow Kristen | Connecticut Hikes, New England Travel along for more dog-friendly adventures in CT & New England. 🐶

Just south of Lake Placid, NY, is a happy little valley - Keene Valley! ⛰️🥾 In the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks.

But don’t let that intimidate you! We always find dog-friendly easy and moderate hikes here the whole fam can enjoy. 🐾

Swipe through to see 5 different hikes (love them all!) from 1.3 miles to 5 miles, an amazing French bakery, local shops, and other places to go before & after hikes!

To me, a summer is not complete without seeing the emerald green peaks of the Adirondacks. 😍And I’m so glad we got to explore Keene more. We usually stay in Lake Placid but this time stayed right in Keene and there’s so much to do here - we didn’t go to Lake Placid once!

Save for a future trip to Keene, NY 😍⛰️👏💚
