The U.S. stock market had its worst day since October Friday as a sell-off in big technology companies weighed down the broader market and a strong jobs report boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve will be forced to hike interest rates at some point this year.

The S&P 500 sank 2.6%, its biggest one-day drop since October 10, when the Trump administration threatened to impose a 100% tariff on imported goods from China. The losses helped push the benchmark index to its first losing week in the last 10.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.4%, while the Nasdaq composite slumped 4.2%.

The driver of the police car that crashed into a railing on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel had a medical emergency before the accident, according to officials.

On May 20, a police car crashed and flipped over a guardrail on the CBBT, where officials said it was near an electrical line.

The driver had a medical emergency that caused them to crash, so there will be no charges filed, according to Tom Anderson, a CBBT spokesperson.

Residents near the Lynnhaven Boat Ramp in Virginia Beach are hopeful new digital signs will help reduce traffic congestion and neighborhood disruptions during the busy summer boating season.

The signs, recently installed along Shore Drive near the Lesner Bridge, notify drivers whether the Lynnhaven boat ramp is full before they enter the neighborhood.

The changes come nearly a year after residents raised concerns about ongoing problems at the boat ramp, including loud music, reckless driving and even gunfire.

Dare Day Dockside kicks off in Wanchese on Saturday, a day that Wanchese Marina has been working tirelessly toward for six weeks. The event comes after the Town of Manteo announced it wouldn't be having the event this year back in March.

"It was just a festival of everybody getting together," said Kimberly Stetson, co-organizer of Dare Day Dockside.

That's Stetson talking about the decade-long tradition of Dare Day and what it means to the Outer Banks community. Like many, Stetson felt blindsided when the Town of Manteo announced it wouldn't be happening there this year.

The Outer Banks is called the Graveyard of the Atlantic for a reason. Thousands of shipwrecks go back hundreds of years, with some still visible from the beaches here. During America 250, News 3 wanted to learn more about this history, and the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum was a perfect place to start.

"The graveyard of the Atlantic Museum tell the stories of the thousands of shipwrecks that have occurred off of the coast of the Outer Banks, which is how the Outer Banks got its nickname, the Graveyard of the Atlantic," said Mary Massie, the museum's site manager.

Standing near the security screening area at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed legislation Thursday that supporters say will make hospitals safer for patients, visitors and healthcare workers across Virginia.

The new law makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor to knowingly bring fi****ms, large knives and other weapons into many Virginia hospitals that provide mental health, developmental and emergency medical services.

While many hospitals already prohibit weapons on their property, supporters say the legislation gives those policies legal enforcement for the first time.
