Yesterday was such a special day for me, marking my book’s birthday. I found myself taking in the realization that I accomplished something I had worked on for a very long time. Equally, if not more meaningful, I reflected on the ways I’ve been able to lift people up, to make a positive difference in their lives. This latter thought alone brings tears (of JOY) to my eyes.

Full transparency: my heart journey has had its ups and downs and twists and turns. As rewarding as it’s been, it’s also been challenging. As such, I found myself thinking about the many hiccups and setbacks along the way.

But you know what? Throughout the day, I felt God’s presence, reminding me to focus on the positive impact I’ve had on others. These incredible heart-finds, especially the smiling face with heart-eyes emoji, did just that. Interestingly, several smiling faces with heart-eyes emojis have found me over the years. Serendipity at its best!

We should always be mindful of how we can grow without allowing others’ actions or lack of action bring us down. Always stay true to ourselves, never give up, and remain open to encouraging signs along the way.

Happy Anniversary, my Heart Followers!

I can hardly believe it’s been a year since my debut book, “HEARTS: Finding Unexpected Signs of Hope, Comfort, and Joy,” launched at Prince Books. I’m beyond grateful to each and every one of you. Your interest and support expressed on social media, text messages, calls, online reviews, and shared photos of YOUR heart-finds have filled my heart.

I’m forever appreciative to my Little Star team and Constance Costas for believing in my vision and helping bring “HEARTS” into the world.

And most importantly, a very special thank you to my husband, Brad, by far, my biggest cheerleader with the most generous heart. His belief in me and endless support keep me going every single day.

❤️❤️❤️

Oh my goodness! What a special night!

I had the best time with everyone who participated in my Author Chat & Paint program at the Norfolk Public Library’s Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch. It was so rewarding to see what spoke to each person’s heart reflected in their beautiful artwork.

Special shout out to Claire Parker! You have such a kind heart; I appreciate your continuous support!

Full disclosure: Every time I share my book with someone, I hope I can lift them up and that we’ll connect with each other, because that connection fills my own heart to the brim. I came into tonight’s program with a heavy heart, dealing with personal and work challenges, but the response from everyone brought me so much comfort and joy.

When I walked out of the library, I was on cloud nine… and I even came across a heart-shaped rock in the walkway (which was made of bricks, not rocks!). So incredibly serendipitous!

Recently, I had the joy of getting together with a dear friend of more than 40 years. We don’t live close to each other, so our visits are rare, but our bond has always remained strong.

Right after we parted, look what stopped me in my tracks. A very weathered but beautiful heart-find. Its jagged edges and textured surface felt like an ode to our friendship, a quiet reminder of the importance of the true friends in our lives, and equally, the importance of making time for each other.

Yesterday, I had the joy of giving a book talk paired with a fun craft project at the Norfolk Public Library’s Lafayette Branch. What a treat!

I shared my heart journey with the ladies, and they painted what “spoke to their hearts” on the nice glass tumblers so generously provided by the library.

To my surprise and much delight, my dear friends, Robyn Neal and Paula Miller, took part! Thank you both from the bottom of my heart!

Those who know me know how much I prefer our cooler seasons. Today marks the first day of Fall, and with it comes hope for not just crisp days ahead, but growth and better times.

Fall reminds us that even as the trees let go of their leaves, it can be a season of renewal and change.

On the eve of Fall, I came across this beautiful heart-shaped leaf. Its vibrant orange with specks of yellow stood out against the salt and pepper pavement - a gentle reminder from up above to never lose hope.

I had the most rewarding time over the weekend.

I gave a book talk and shared some of my heart-finds that aren’t in “HEARTS” with the residents at East Pavilion, the skilled nursing and long term care facility in Franklin, VA. They were all so sweet; they could not have been more welcoming and engaging. It truly warmed my heart.

A big THANK YOU to East Pavilion’s Danielle Dawson, who made this program possible. She arranged it for a day she normally doesn’t work, and made sure all the interested residents could attend. Her selfless efforts and kindness meant the world.
