I’m always coming upon beautiful, perfectly imperfect silver foil hearts. They often make me reflect on my friendships and how much they mean to me. Perhaps it’s because of the Joseph Parry poem, in part:

“Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.”

I love and appreciate my friends, both old and new. The history I share with friends I’ve known for years is priceless, and the joy of making new friends is enriching. My life and heart feel full because of the quality, not the quantity, of the friendships I have.

This bulletin board in a Norfolk community center stopped me in my tracks.

I couldn’t agree more!

Let's carry this positive energy into the weekend!

When asked why I wrote “HEARTS,” I don’t have to think about my answer. If anything, I need to learn how to keep my response brief.

I knew from the get-go that my #1 hope was that my book would inspire others. I wanted to reinforce that we’re not alone. We’re more connected than we realize, and we all need to give grace to ourselves as much as we give it to others.

In essence, I want everyone to know that they matter.

Like this recent adorable, quite incredible heart-find on the ODU campus says, “U R AWESOME!😊”

Let’s always make an effort to let each other know that we are valued.

This is too funny and quite remarkable.

I have no doubt I’m not the only person who has found themselves getting a bruise or scrape, and having no idea how they got it.

My elbow was stinging quite a bit the other day, and lo and behold, look what I found… a heart-find on my person.

I have no idea when or where I got it, but it actually gives me more joy than it hurts.

They say to wear your heart on your sleeve, but I guess I decided to wear mine on my elbow.

I’m not going to lie. I’ve been feeling low about a variety of things, from family stuff, book stuff, health stuff, and everything in between.

I know life is complicated and going to be full of ups and downs, but there are times when I get overwhelmed with the downs.

It’s at these low times that my heart-finds mean all the more. They give me the hope, comfort, and joy I so need.

My heart-finds from this past weekend, a crazy amount, reflect how life can be so messy, broken, and imperfect, yet also simply delightful. Each one is so helpful and meaningful - heavenly messages reminding me I’m not alone and to never lose sight of my blessings.

If you’re struggling, know that I can empathize. My heart is with you and I’m holding onto my faith that things will get better. What we put out into the universe will come back to us.

“Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.” Barbara Johnson

No matter the time of year, love is always in the air. It comes in so many different forms, but it always exudes that same special feeling.

These heart-finds, a painted rock, a bent wire, a discarded pencil, even a broken cup, were all found while I was out and about this spring.

They serve as gentle reminders that love is constantly being “left behind” for us to find. They have a way of lifting my spirits and reminding me of how special it is to feel loved and to make others feel the same.

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W. B. Yeats

What are the odds? Feeling all the feels.

The road I take to get to “my” post office was shut down due to sewer work, so I had to figure out another way. Something nudged me to take a route that was a bit longer than another way.

And this precious heart-find was on the road I chose. Amazing!

When I’m by myself, my mind often goes to all the things I’m working on or need to work on. I don’t see this purple heart-shaped bracelet as a sign that I chose the “right” path, but I do believe it’s a gentle reminder that I’m not alone… and that everything is going to be okay.

“Hope begins in the dark. The stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don’t give up.” Anne Lamott

I can’t deny I have fears, some internal and others external. Admittedly, it’s my nature to be a worrier, so some of these fears have never gone away. But it’s my courage that helps carry me through them.

This courage comes from my determination to never give up and my faith. This combination allows my fears and courage to co-exist.

So, as we enter spring, a season of new beginnings and growth, I find myself both hopeful and a little afraid.

Through it all, so many incredible hearts have crossed my path. These gentle nods from up above keep me going and remind me to never give up.

Life isn’t easy, but we’re never alone.

“Courage isn’t the absence of fear — it’s the strength to keep going when you’re scared.” Richard Fox

Such a wonderful day! My book signing at the ODU Bookstore on Admitted Students Day was most enjoyable! The energy was incredible with 100s of new faces filling the store. I loved sharing my book and chatting with so many students, their parents and siblings, as well as ODU staff and alumni.

And I must give a special shout-out to the bookstore staff. Your kindness, support, and interest in my book meant more than you know! Monarch Strong.🦁💙
