d The Virginian Pilot newspaper. Her column provided common sense advice for common workplace problems. She was the "Dear Abby" for the workplace. Roze continues to facilitate retreats and conduct workshops and seminars on a great many topics pertaining to soft-people skills, including but not limited to leadership, effective communications, mentoring, team building, and customer service. She also conducts one-on-one coaching/mentoring sessions with individuals, helping them find the right jobs (assists with their resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, interviewing techniques, networking, etc.); address issues in their current jobs; and transition from one career/job to a new one.

For many of us, the month of December presents a mix of emotions. While it can be a time filled with love and joy, it can also be a season marked by stress and grief.

These are just a few of some of my December heart-finds. They lift me up and gently remind me that I’m not alone, helping me notice all the good that exists, even in the midst of it all.

What a truly special day!

I had the most enjoyable book talk and signing with the Adam Thoroughgood Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) over the weekend.

The members were most welcoming and their interest in “HEARTS” meant the world. I’m so grateful to be closing out the year this way.

These heart-finds are incredible. They’re not only so fittingly imperfect, complicated, and cool, but they crossed my path on a day I truly needed them.

This time of year is one of my favorites. We have the holidays, cold (and possibly snowy) weather, and college basketball ramping up. But even with all these bright spots and all the wonderful people in my life, I’ve been feeling very low because of a recent setback I consider significant.

And admittedly, something very positive happened recently too, yet somehow, this one disappointment has been able to overshadow so much good in my life.

These precious hearts of hope, comfort, and joy appeared like tiny reminders to practice what I know to be true. We have so much to be grateful for, to look forward to, and to celebrate. One moment of failure cannot define us or steal our peace and happiness, unless we allow it.

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time of the year to count our blessings and make sure the special people in our lives know we’re grateful for them.

I had such a fun time with everyone who participated in my Author Chat & Paint program at the Norfolk Public Library’s Blyden Branch. Such a wonderful way to ease into the spirit of the holiday season.

I loved sharing my heart journey and heart-finds, and seeing everyone’s heart-inspired artwork on their glass tumblers.

Special thanks to Blyden’s manager, Ericka, as well as Oliver and Kimberly, for making sure everything ran smoothly. And a huge appreciation for my biggest supporter, Brad Worrell, always by my side, helping me in any and every way he can.

A surprise and highlight of the afternoon was when my dear sweet friend from college, Karen Clarke Reidelbach, walked into the room. We hadn’t seen each other in over 40 years. It meant more than she can imagine.

And I must mention the cool hat perched high on a cabinet, quietly keeping watch. That little heart on its side was an unexpected “find” I absolutely needed. Amazing!

It’s such a wonderful feeling to have a friend who’s got your back. Someone who accepts you, flaws and all, and genuinely cares.

We all need that kind of person in our corner, someone who listens with their heart and offers thoughtful, constructive feedback.

While spending time with one of my special people and sharing my ups and downs, I came across these lovely heart-finds. No coincidence!

Yesterday was such a special day for me, marking my book’s birthday. I found myself taking in the realization that I accomplished something I had worked on for a very long time. Equally, if not more meaningful, I reflected on the ways I’ve been able to lift people up, to make a positive difference in their lives. This latter thought alone brings tears (of JOY) to my eyes.

Full transparency: my heart journey has had its ups and downs and twists and turns. As rewarding as it’s been, it’s also been challenging. As such, I found myself thinking about the many hiccups and setbacks along the way.

But you know what? Throughout the day, I felt God’s presence, reminding me to focus on the positive impact I’ve had on others. These incredible heart-finds, especially the smiling face with heart-eyes emoji, did just that. Interestingly, several smiling faces with heart-eyes emojis have found me over the years. Serendipity at its best!

We should always be mindful of how we can grow without allowing others’ actions or lack of action bring us down. Always stay true to ourselves, never give up, and remain open to encouraging signs along the way.

I can hardly believe it’s been a year since my debut book, “HEARTS: Finding Unexpected Signs of Hope, Comfort, and Joy,” launched at Prince Books. I’m beyond grateful to each and every one of you. Your interest and support expressed on social media, text messages, calls, online reviews, and shared photos of YOUR heart-finds have filled my heart.
