I’m often asked why I don’t photograph myself when I find a heart. Admittedly, I don’t like taking pictures of myself, and most often, I’m by myself. Plus, it’s not in my technical wheelhouse to get me and my heart-finds in a decent photo.

I was with my husband when this beautiful heart-find, a crape myrtle’s heart-shaped canopy, caught my eye. I succumbed to peer pressure, and had him include me in the photo.

Several years ago, I came upon a similar one in the same Norfolk neighborhood and included it in my book. Both have a way of making me forget about our current stifling heat and humidity, and, instead, focus on God’s amazing creations.

On a side note, I’ll never forget when a dear friend read my reflection for the crape myrtle heart-find in my book. She told me only I could see the beauty in this tree. It reminded her how our city chops up our trees so they don’t interfere with the power lines. I couldn’t help but giggle and also hope that I gave her a new perspective.

Is this not magnificent? As I was waiting for a business to open this morning, I looked up at the sky and this most beautiful heart-find took my breath away.

Nature has such a lovely way of painting exactly what we need to see at the perfect moment. The thick heat and humidity totally skipped my mind as I took in God’s incredible masterpiece.

Look what I came upon this morning. A lovely colored heart-find at the entryway to my allergist’s building. I’m not sure, but it looks like crushed-up chalk to me. So unexpected, but much appreciated!

I had such a rewarding day with the residents and staff at Commonwealth Senior Living at the Ballentine. Sharing my book’s messages, heart-wrapped Rice Krispies Treats, and heart charms was most enjoyable.

Their interest and appreciation meant more than my words can adequately express. It was such a special afternoon. I look forward to spending time with them again in the near future.

Happy 4th of July! Wishing everyone a joyful and reflective day.

Such a wonderful afternoon today with the residents at The Village at Woods Edge in Franklin! I loved sharing the journey that led to “HEARTS,” along with many of my heart-finds that made it into the book, and quite a few that didn’t. Their warmth and kindness truly made my day.

And I must give my heartfelt thanks to Dylon Langford, The Village’s Director of Resident Services. I truly appreciate you working with me to make this lovely event a reality!

It was an absolute joy spending time with all of you!

It’s the little things in life that can make us so happy. They’re the gifts that keep on giving, filling our hearts in ways we never expected. They may not seem like big things, but their impact is huge.

My heart-finds are certainly high on my list, but there are so many other little things that have a way of lifting me up. The list is way too long, but a few include watching my husband laugh, the sighting of a beautiful cardinal, watching snow fall from my home, indulging in a Butterfinger or Oreo blizzard, or unexpectedly hearing a favorite song on the radio.

I hope we never lose our appreciation for the little things in our lives.

P.S. I promise to post some photos of my other favorite little things in the future.

I’m always coming upon beautiful, perfectly imperfect silver foil hearts. They often make me reflect on my friendships and how much they mean to me. Perhaps it’s because of the Joseph Parry poem, in part:

“Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.”

I love and appreciate my friends, both old and new. The history I share with friends I’ve known for years is priceless, and the joy of making new friends is enriching. My life and heart feel full because of the quality, not the quantity, of the friendships I have.
