"My name is Bella Adriana Gutierrez, born and raised in Venezuela.
"As a journalist, I have always believed in the power of the free press and the importance of speaking truth to power. But in a world where censorship seeks silence, it is more crucial than ever to stand up for the fundamental human right of freedom of speech.
"After working for almost five years at a television station in my country during a time where censorship of the media and political violence prevailed, shutting down newspapers, radio stations and even television stations, and where journalists were constantly attacked, I know what it means to be afraid to report truthfully and promptly.
"I know first-hand the challenge of navigating a landscape where voices are suppressed.
"But, I remain committed to telling the stories that need to be told...."
Congratulations to Bella Adriana Gutierrez, a recipient of the 2025 Human Rights award, sponsored by the Oklahoma Universal Human Rights Alliance and the Oklahoma City chapter of the United Nations Association.
Bella was honored for her support of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."
