TOP 5 SONGS I FIND MYSELF PLAYING AT ALMOST EVERY WEDDING!
As a Professional Wedding DJ/MC who does over 50 weddings per year, I play a LOT of songs! But there are some that tend to pop up more often than others.... these are the 4 songs that I find myself playing at almost every single wedding during the "Open Dance" phase of the Reception! Any surprises? Any songs you think deserve to be in the list along with these 4, because I am having trouble figuring out number 5! So here's my Top 4, and we can add some more songs in the comments as possible contenders for that number 5 slot! We may end up needing to extend it to a Top 10 List, let's see!
1- Yeah (Usher) it's almost impossible to not play this song towards the end of the night, maybe right before your Final Song of the evening... I have yet to see this song disappoint! That being said, it was on my "DO NOT PLAY" list at my last wedding, which also happened to be a Sunday wedding. But the Fri/Sat night weddings that end at 10PM or later, it's an absolute late-night MUST PLAY!
2- September (Earth, Wind & Fire) it's a song that sort of defines for me a genre of songs called "Intergenerational", in that there is a rare breed of songs that can actually be enjoyed by virtually every age group, regardless of gender. This is just one of those songs that your grandparents will love, and somehow, kids, teens, young adults, you name it, pretty much everyone loves this song, and for good reason, it's just a fantastic song in just about every possible way.
-3- Low (Flo Rida) Amazingly, this too is Intergenerational. This song is officially 15 years old, and there are 15 year olds who love this song. How is that even possible, it's hard to tell, probably because of TikTok! But whatever the case may be, it's another song that is almost guaranteed to keep people on the dance floor!
4 - I wanna Dance With Somebody (Whitney Houston) - I've played this song 1000 times, easily. Because it's not just weddings, you can get away with this one for just about any social event where you want to pack a dance floor, while also having your guests shout the lyrics of the chorus right along with Whitney! Somehow, I don't dread playing this song, after playing it pretty much all the time. And that's a true testament to that song, if it still sounds fresh to me for the 1000th time at an event, it'll sound amazing to the average wedding guest hearing it for like the 20th time!
5- ?????? What do YOU think should be number 5?
