The repetitive rubbing together of ones feet often referred to as “cricketing” or “cricket feet”, is a self-soothing behavior observed typically in abuse survivors, including survivors of narcissistic abuse.
While this is a powerful way for your body to self-soothe, pay attention to your feet. If you find yourself “cricketing” and you have had past trauma, this could be an indication of unresolved or trapped trauma int he body, which carries significant consequences if not released.
Do not, by any means, intentionally stop cricketing if you do notice yourself doing this, as it is a great way to cope; however, let’s add a couple of other intentional behaviors to your self-care routine to help you release this stored trauma.
Breathing exercises like diaphragmatic breathing can calm the nervous system, reduce stress and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce stress and activate the parasympathetic nervous system promoting relaxation and trauma release.
Meditation, especially while listening to certain frequencies like 417hz or 528 hz, helps release trauma by promoting relaxation, calming the nervous system and rewiring brain pathways associated with stress and emotional regulation.
Also movements like yoga, tai chi, somatic movement and TRE (tension releasing exercises) can help release stored trauma from the body by promoting relaxation, reducing muscle tension and re-establishing a sense of safety.
There are MANY more ways to release trauma from the body but these are my favorites and some that I have personally used and had great success with but just hop on google for more ideas. YouTube has thousands of free videos with frequencies you can listen to for healing as well as teaching showing breathing techniques, yoga, etc.
Your trauma was not your fault, but healing yourself has unfortunately become your responsibility. Take good care of yourselves sweet friends.
