This may help you understand how everyone’s Facebook feed has become more personalized to them.

A Facebook Group Admin asked:

If a private group has over 1K members why it doesn't show to mostly everyone anything that it has been posted? According to the analytics only about 20 to 30 people get to see it but there are usually about 700 people active at the time of the post. Checked with a few people and their notifications are on, but still won't pop up unless looked for.

Here’s the answer:

The Facebook algorithm decides which posts people see every time they check their Facebook feed, and in what order those posts show up. For its part, Facebook would like to remind us that there is no single algorithm, but rather “multiple layers of machine learning models and rankings,” built to predict which posts will be “most valuable and meaningful to an individual over the long term.”

In other words, instead of presenting every available Facebook post in chronological order, the Facebook algorithm evaluates every post, scores it, and then arranges it in descending order of interest for each individual user. This process happens every time a user—and there are 2.7 billion of them—refreshes their newsfeed.

Is your brand or business Virtue Signaling?

Virtue signaling is when your brand conspicuously expresses its values without actually taking actions to live by those values.

Capitalizing on cultural moments, particularly those of a tragic nature, holidays or pride and awareness months by mixing a message of concern with shameless self-promotion is a surefire path to reputation annihilation.

When it comes to your brand or business ask yourself:

Are we making a statement or are we self-promoting?

A statement says "this is where we stand as a business." A promotion says "this is what we offer to you the customer." Mixing the two, especially around sensitive issues, is dicey.

If you’re just going along with what’s currently trending and changing your logo to match the color scheme of that awareness month, then you’re not really supporting that cause. You’re just trying to fit in.

If you really care about the cause then contribute by getting actively involved in your local community, charities, and organizations that support that movement. If not, then your best bet is to not get involved at all. Stay neutral. Cancel culture is at an all time high and the last thing your business needs is bad publicity or being called what the young millennials like to say a “Try-Hard.”
