LBA is located just South of Buffalo NY, USA. Owned by Lightning Boy Audio, LBA Recording Studio is a professional Production, Recording and Mixing studio located in the greater Buffalo, NY area. Just a short drive South of the city, in the quiet rural village of North Collins is one of the most original studios Western New York has to offer. Practically everything at the studio has been designed

and hand-crafted by its founder, Mike Congilosi II. Everything from the recording equipment to the very walls that shape the sound have all been created with one goal in mind... to make big & warm sounding records! While LBA Recording Studio primarily provides music production services, the studio also serves as a real-world test bed for Lightning Boy Audio products and prototypes. Most pieces of equipment at the studio are hand-made by Mike. That, combined with his production approach, gives LBA Studios its own distinct sound. The results of this combination are that of warm, highly detailed sounding recordings with a wide stereo image and a deeply beautiful tone. If you're looking for a sound that is the complete opposite of common, LBA Recording Studio might just have what you're after.

I recently ran into a couple similar situations with recording female voices that are naturally sibilant. Maybe a bit of a lisp. I have ribbon mics that could probably deal with that well, but they'll require a lot of EQ to get it sounding modern and polished. I've been looking for a microphone that can deliver the goods without much if any EQ. I tried this Mohave Audio MA-37 ($3849 USD) and was very disappointed. It sounded like a slightly more detailed ribbon mic. It needed a ton of EQ. It was definitely an odd mic. For that price I'm not interested. I returned it and got my money back. The search is still on. The ADK 251 was suggested as a solid option for me. Still thinking about that one. I'd like to stay under $4K. Anyone (with experience) have any serious suggestions? Thank you.

Always a joy seeing an Artist who recorded at LBA kickin’ ass in the real world. Power corn eater JB Martin devouring the festival! The fact that he was not crowned the Corn King is a crying shame. 😂 jk ❤️

Dustin Hummel intensely listening back after a productive day of tracking. Many more sessions planned for his big awesome project. More on that soon.

They were so loud in the hall you could hear it outside, as the security camera clearly did! 😂

I did a walk through video of the session setup, but I didn’t stick around long enough to grab it off the camera. There was a lot involved. This one little vid I did with my phone toward the end of the session when we were recording sound fx and background stuff. It was a funny first for me! 😂

I had to take a ride out to pick up a music stand today because I didn’t have enough for tomorrow’s session. I never needed 6 music stands before! I’ll do a quick walk through video tomorrow of the setup because It’s my first time recording 6 voices at the same time. I had to buy a bunch of stuff for this session, like more isolation tools, an extra pair of headphones, and more headphone amplifiers. Plus, I needed to set up an auxiliary stereo recording setup in the hall for gang vocals!

Weird situation. I normally would not do this, but the circumstances called for it. I had the 150 Watt Mesa Triple Rectifier head turned up all the way and connected to two speaker cabinets with a combined rating of 600 watts. The amp was cutting out. I’m not sure if this is normal because I never maxed it out before. It’s still within the return window. Just wondering if anyone has a thought on this? It works fine at reasonably loud volumes.

I missed you.

Well… I got that refund and put a lot of thought into the amp I really want. I probably watched 100 amp shootout videos. I bought a used, but mint, and modern MESA/Boogie Triple Rectifier multi-watt head. It’s tighter sounding than the Triple Rec I used to own and it has more (good) features. I really want the rectifier sound in my collection and this is better than it was before. Amp arrives on Wednesday. Hopefully with no issues 🤞.

Turns out I’m not getting that MESA Dual Rectifier. The seller called me today to say it hasn’t shipped yet because is non-functional. He just wanted to let me know whats up. I asked for a refund. Thinking about my next move. Suggestions? That new 90’s reissue Dual Rectifier looks interesting, but the price is scary.

I always regretted selling my MESA Triple Rectifier solo 150 watt amp head many years ago. It was super versatile. I’m very glad to have just purchased this used MESA Dual Rectifier. Same amp, but 100 watts and it weighs less. Even 100 watts is overkill for recording, but it’s about the sound. I know it will get a lot of use at the studio.
