Ah, Ernie Smith was definitely proud of the steam engine boat he refurbished. Interesting history and nice memory of an always friendly lifelong Fryeburg resident.

Ernie Smith restored an early 1900s steam launch which he proudly sailed on Kezar Lake.

Did you know that there used to be a ski jump on Cathedral Ledge in the 1920s? This story by Tom Eastman shares the amazing memories of that time from several local icons who are now long gone. It's a very fun read.

Those were the days on the Wildcat River when Wentworth Hall had its solarium that its many guests enjoyed, but not quite as much as author Nicholas Howe and his siblings who considered it the best way to judge the strength of a New England storm,

The long-gone Wentworth Hall solarium also served as a judge of New England weather.

Everything you wanted to know about our local Maine potatoes but didn't know who to ask. Of course, this was written almost 40 years ago so some things may have changed since then, but we're still lucky to have so much farming right here.

Isn't it reassuring to know there are still plenty of potatoes being grown right here in our valley?
