Here's a wonderful piece written in 1986 by longtime Valley resident and local historian Helen Nute when she was 89. A great read for both young and old.

Helen Nute at age 89 waxes almost poetic about growing old. A fun read for all ages.

Those were the days on the Wildcat River when Wentworth Hall had its solarium that its many guests enjoyed, but not quite as much as author Nicholas Howe and his siblings who considered it the best way to judge the strength of a New England storm,

The long-gone Wentworth Hall solarium also served as a judge of New England weather.

Everything you wanted to know about our local Maine potatoes but didn't know who to ask. Of course, this was written almost 40 years ago so some things may have changed since then, but we're still lucky to have so much farming right here.

Isn't it reassuring to know there are still plenty of potatoes being grown right here in our valley?

As we all (or most of us) take hundreds of photos with our cell phones and just take it for granted, it's interesting to read how a dedicated photographer in the late 1800s and early 1900s recorded memorable photos of Mt. Washington Valley and what he had to go through to do so.

In this day of cell phone photos, it's hard to imagine the challenge of photography in the 19th century. It's wonderful to learn about one such local photographer and to have some of his photography preserved.

Before you head to White Birch Books on Thursday (28) to meet Babe Ruth's grandson, Tom Stevens, and learn more about the book Out of the Mouth of Babe, you might want to read Ear founder Jane Golden's interview with Julia Ruth Stevens, his mother, and learn more about Babe Ruth's connection to Mt. She was only in grade school when her mother, a widow, met and married Babe Ruth, a widower himself, in 1929. He was then at the p...

Fun to read about a White Mountain character who added a lot to the lives of former WBNC radio owner Joan Sherman and her family. They don't make 'em like they used to!

Sometime neighbors can give one a glimpse into a whole different world.
