White Mountains NEMBA will hold a fundraiser to support fat bike trail grooming in the Valley, the weekend of January 9–11. There will be a Fat Bike Scavenger Hunt with checkpoints spread around Marshall and Rogers Crossing. Everything wraps up with a Sunday afternoon party and raffle at Pro tune !

DARKish SKIES OVER THE WHITES: This photo by White Mountain Images by Chris Whiton, shows the areas of increased light pollution around the Whites. In the past five years, ski brightness in the region has increased by 35%, according to Twin Mountain's Douglas Arion, a former professor of physics and astronomy.

While our skies around the Mt. Washington Valley and White Mountains are still relatively dark, more lights are being added and misused, obscuring our stars and impacting regional ecosystems.

Once again, The Valley Originals is seeking entries from artists around the region that capture the essence of the Mt. Washington Valley and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The selected design will be featured on the back cover of Mt Washington Valley Vibe magazine and also used to help promote the work of the Valley Originals. The winning artist will receive $1,000, and their work will be featured in upcoming publications, marketing collateral, and various press announcements. Runner-ups will also receive $700 and $500, respectively.

They're baack. News and social media have become quite adept at notifying us when the Northern Lights may be visible. Unfortunately, there are many variables involved in pursuing the Aurora Borealis, resulting in many "false alarms" over the past year or so. While location and weather are top considerations, the strength of the Northern Lights also needs to be taken into account. Chances of seeing the lights are elevated June 1-2, and again around June 15.
