There’s been a lot of mixed reactions following reports that authorities in Guinea deported over 1,000 Sierra Leoneans who were reportedly living in very poor conditions.
While it’s easy to quickly condemn such actions, it’s also important to look at the full picture. Every country has laws guiding immigration and the safety of its communities. Living in unsafe environments and engaging in questionable activities can attract the attention of authorities anywhere in the world.
This situation should also serve as a moment of reflection for us as citizens of Sierra Leone. Sometimes we overlook what we have at home, only to face even tougher realities abroad. No place is perfect, but home will always remain a place where we understand the system, the culture, and have a sense of belonging.
Instead of focusing only on blame, let’s encourage our people to:
• Travel legally and responsibly
• Represent our country with dignity
• Build and support opportunities back home
At the same time, we hope for humane treatment, respect, and due process for all migrants, no matter where they are.
Let’s have a balanced conversation, not just an emotional one. 🇸🇱
With love 🤍If you want, I can also make a stronger or more emotional version depending on the tone you prefer.
Stay tuned as we will upload videos from Guinea soon.
