Concert venue, recording studio, live multi-camera webcast, community. Open Mic Mondays and showcases Tuesday through Sunday. Open for booking for music events and all other live streaming events.
Kulak's Woodshed will begin allowing audiences to attend all shows here as of 12/8/21, (that is, if we had shows. Only 2 have been booked since I re-opened in October, they were in November. Nothing at all yet for December. Yes, I'm very concerned).... I wonder if the Woodshed may have become irrelevant since so many artists learned how to do their own live video webcast and recordings... No Open Mic and 2fer nights for now. In these difficult and dangerous times of Covid-19, it is my goal to make the Woodshed a place where all people will feel safe when attending a show here. Until further notice we will be checking everyone at the front door for proof of Covid-19 vaccination cards and masks will be required. Artists will be allowed to perform without masks if they wish. Please contact me at [email protected] to book a show. Gratefully, Paul

Hi Folks, People have been asking me recently when Kulak’s Woodshed will re-open. In the abundance of caution I’ve been taking a wait and see approach. Things were looking promising in early July and I was preparing to announce a re-opening date when sure enough, Covid-19 infections began to increase in the past week to levels not seen since early spring of 2021, and LA county renewed the mandatory indoor mask requirements. Now I’m not sure what to do and I’m very concerned. I’ll be wearing my mask of course but re-opening the Woodshed is once again on hold. I also learned today that an artist who I know, that performed many times at the Woodshed, and was fully vaccinated in April, still got Covid-19 in late June. He didn’t have to go to the hospital but it was hell for him to get through and I wonder who else I may know that got it after being vaccinated. Me? I got my Covid-19 shots a few months ago as soon as I was able for my age group and the Woodshed volunteers did so as well but I worry about the people that are able but have chosen not to. I wish they would change their mind and get the Covid-19 vaccine, and do it a couple weeks before before attending any crowded indoor gatherings. I’m a shut in, so other than the Woodshed being closed since March 13th, 2020 the pandemic hasn’t really affected my personal life in any way. I don’t worry much about catching it myself and neither do the Woodshed volunteers but I’d like to know that once we re-open that visitors and performers here can have peace of mind that everyone they are sharing the air with has received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Gratefully,
Paul

Hi Folks, I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my mass email recently offering me help, advice, and leads in filling out the application for the special Federal Government’s Small Business Administrations Shuttered Venues Operators Grant (SVOG). Everyone was surprised at how extensive, complicated, and stump-tifying it was and without assistance I would have given up out of frustration. *whew* So there ya go, it got done and was submitted. Thank you so MUCH! Now it’s wait and see... I hope the Woodshed gets it. Gratefully, Paul

Hi Everyone, Looking forward to re-opening eventually. Not sure when though. Please keep an eye on our page for updates. Gratefully, Paul

Re. what is going on right now --- it's
very sad bc the music venues -- especially a down-to-earth place like your Kulak's Woodshed, provides extremely necessary Emotional Nutrients in the form of Music, Friendship, Acceptance of Being an Artist within a world of zombies....I Personally think this "covid" is just as dangerous as a cold, a flu, anything going around that is part of being a human after all ... it is no more or less dangerous than those other diseases we have grown up knowing about..? And in fact --- I believe since my teenage years that the TRADIONAL WESTERN MEDICAL industry, for the most part, CREATES diseases rather than help the body's immunity system heal holistically --. Just saying. There is a WONDERFUL group of ETHICAL PHYSICIANS and Other Medical professionals, called PHYSICIANS'S COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE, which has new approaches that are actually age-old, but got stifled in the monetary greed of the capitalism profit-machine-at-any-cost (which we are all now obviously suffering the consequences of.)
Thank you for the invite Kulak's Woodshed it's an honor and pleasure to being here
Hello friends, need some live music while you shelter in? We’ve got some for you!
Tonight 6/3 Kulaks will be re-broadcasting our show at 8pm🎶🌹
You will be able to make a donation if you like. We are giving all donations to Kulaks Woodshed to help keep their doors open.
Kulaks is a one of a kind venue that nurtures, promotes, & appreciates artists.
Thank you, Kulak's Woodshed!
I'm wondering if my performance there was ever filmed?
Tonight at 8PM here.
Page 29 of the latest issue of Music Connection Magazine!
Our friend Masaki who played with the house band while he was in school here, is still in Japan, posted a video of how even being locked down with toys you can still ROCK!
I think staying open and broadcasting without an audience is a good idea. It is not a public concert and can be done without any risk of spreading the disease.
Just be sure to tell people watching not to touch their screens while the show is on....
😀
I paypaled more than a few bucks this morning at http://kulakswoodshed.com/support/ . Paul emailed me with gratitude and asked why; I’ve pasted my answer below. If any of it resonates with you, and especially if you’ve ever watched one of these **amazing** live streams for free(!!?!), please pitch in if you can.

Hi Paul,
I would have donated sooner but didn’t see your posts until yesterday. Reasons why:
I grew up in Northridge, moved away a while, came back to LA, now work not far from Kulak’s at LA Valley College. I’ve actually only been to Kulak’s twice, once about a week ago, and once maybe 20 years ago; both were so great. I watch sometimes online, and I’m aware of how generous you’ve been to independent artists and fans over the decades.
In the last couple years I stumbled into some wonderful music camps, a thing I never knew existed before, and now understand the value of the community that music can build, and how much that community makes all our lives better. I want to do what I can to keep all that going, especially close to home. I am worried about independent artists in this crisis, and I want to help them keep doing what they do, now and once this craziness is over.
I don’t have a lot of money, but I have more than I used to, and more than I need to get comfortably by. Supporting your place, and the musicians you support, and the fans who love the music, feels like the right thing to do.
Please do close the physical venue for now and keep folks — and yourself — safe; this thing is no joke, and the crowds and performers tend to be older, at least for the music I listen to. The community will get you through until then, if we know what’s needed. Thanks for all you do.
-Cynthia
This place is awesome. It can't survive without your help. I know it's not the time to ask, but I'm asking. So many people play here, volunteers run it, the live sound, the broadcasts, the recordings. Kulak's Woodshed is live music venue, and recording space. A place where musicians and come to sing and play, and have their own content when they leave. If nothing else this place serves as a community, and it's in our backyard. If you can give whatever you can to keep it up while everyone is #socialdistancing, please do.
Paul uses a rail cam system that involves a skateboard for his dolly! AUTOMATED! This community deserves our help!
