During the early stages of Barack Obama’s run for president, it became apparent that the majority of Americans looked upon the potential first family as a rare example of the American dream. However, Charles and Kimberly Bailey Tureaud, Publishers and editors of Las Vegas Black Image magazine, didn’t see the Obamas’ success as unusual because of their own lifelong exposure to a progressive Cosby lifestyle. Scrutiny of Obama in the presidential race planted the creative seeds for Las Vegas Black Image magazine, which debuted in February 2009, and promotes a positive perception of African-Americans in Las Vegas. The magazine aims to present a broad image of black life and entertainment in Las Vegas, as well as showcase the African-American lifestyle as a broad and diverse entity that contributes to the wealth of the economy. Las Vegas Black Image is published monthly by the Tureauds’ company, Culturally Diverse Advertising, Media Relations and Events.
