Jason Williams made an official annoucemwnt to run for Arkansas State Senate - District 13

Repost from Jason for AR on Facebook:
“It’s official! I’m running for Arkansas State Senate District 13 because I believe we can build a healthier, more prosperous future for our community. As a healthcare provider, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles families face with access to affordable care. That’s why my top priorities are making healthcare more affordable and expanding mental health resources in our schools and communities. Let’s work together! https://goodchange.app/version-live/donate/jason-4i

This 1992 JET cover marked a pivotal moment: then-Governor Bill Clinton launching his run for the White House, anchored by the strength of his Black advisors.

Several of these trailblazers were homegrown Arkansans whose impact still resonates:

• Ernest Green — one of the Little Rock Nine, who integrated Central High and the first Black person to graduate from Central High, and national barrier breaker in business and government.

• Rodney Slater — from Marianna, later serving as U.S. Secretary of Transportation under Clinton, shaping national infrastructure.

• Lottie Shackleford — of Little Rock, the first Black woman mayor of the city, who also served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

• Bob Nash — of Little Rock, who became a senior White House official focused on economic development and small business.

• Carol D. Willis - from McGehee, a master organizer and strategist; a fixture of Clinton campaigns who coordinated get-out-the-vote efforts in Arkansas and nationally, later a DNC senior adviser on minority voter outreach.

And let’s not forget the visionary behind the magazine itself: John H. Johnson, founder of JET and Ebony, born in Arkansas City, AR. His publications documented Black life, culture, and power when mainstream media wouldn’t, making covers like this a lasting archive of our history.

Black Arkansas has always raised voices that move culture, community, and even the country forward.

announced that longtime Deejay and Music Director of The Quiet Storm jazz show on KABF 88.3 FM, Mr. Robert “Big Griff” Griffin, Sr., has transitioned.

For over 40 years, his unmistakable voice carried through our homes, especially on those rainy Sunday mornings, filling the airwaves with soul, calm, and connection.

At 73 years old, he leaves behind a legacy of music, culture, and community. To borrow his own words: “We love you, and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.”

Today, we dedicate Smokey Robinson’s “Quiet Storm” to you, Big Griff. Your spirit will forever echo through the music.
