Do You Still DJ?

They ask me,
“Are you still DJing?”—
like it’s something I put down
and forget,
like it’s a coat I wear
only when it rains.

But no one asks the river
if it’s still flowing,
no one checks on the ocean
to see if it’s still making waves.

You don’t ask fire
if it’s still burning,
or stars
if they still shine.

Music is not what I do,
it’s who I am.
It’s the pulse behind my silence,
the breath beneath my stillness,
the beat that doesn’t beg for stage lights
or your permission to exist.

So when you ask me that,
you ask me
if I’m still breathing,
if my soul still stirs,
if I’ve stopped being
who I was born to be.

Yes, I still DJ.
The world spins,
and so do I.🦋
