Ever notice how most athletes naturally T-step when they accelerate?

That’s not a mistake…it’s their body searching for stability.

In controlled drills, I’ll have my basketball players practice the T-step during backpedals.

Why?

It gives them a solid base and keeps them protected.

Most coaches overlook this small setup detail on back extensions… and it completely changes what pattern gets trained.

👉 Pad higher = more spine and erector focus
👉 Pad lower = hamstrings and glutes

Same exercise, different outcome. It’s not just what you do—it’s how you set it up.

Most make the same mistake with mini band drills… they go too heavy. 🚫

A heavy band doesn’t make your athletes stronger, it interrupts the movement pattern.

Instead, teach them to:

👉 Stay positioned correctly
👉 Capture the inside of the foot
👉 Push as you step

Want more lateral hip activation? Straighten the knees.

Want more hip external rotators? Add a little knee bend, or place band on feet

Coming back from an injury doesn’t mean skipping jump training…it means finding the right way to build it back.

This drill teaches athletes how to load through both legs and finish on one, building strength in the ankles, hips, and quads without leaving the ground. Add a band for extra challenge.

I use this with athletes to simply warm up OR rehabbing ankle sprains, hip injuries, and ACLs to safely bridge the gap back to explosive power.

Most people think the Pallof Press is just a core exercise… but that’s only part of the story. 👀

By adjusting your stance and foot angles, the Pallof (and its chop variation) can target up your hips, groin, and stabilizers…making it a go-to for strength, activation, and even rehab.

Understand how to utilize the Pallof Press as a training tool to build strong, more stable athletes, enroll in Speed Insiders. (🔗 in bio)
