Restaurant Gets Benefit of the Doubt
Toups StumpWater an adequate dining spot
by Anon E. Muss

318 Forum’s always-hungry reporter often has lunch at a local restaurant and tells you about the experience.

It was one of those days.

You know, the kind of day where everything hits you at once — and from every direction.

By the time I looked up, it was 12:30, and I had not thought about eating.

However, for a couple of months, I had considered Toups StumpWater Restaurant & Bar (9294 Blanchard Furrh Road, Shreveport). The pictures of food pushed out on social media looked good, but the restaurant was quite a way from where I spend most of my time. However, with all ... DJ Yoshi: The Music Man
Marvelle Brown speaks the universal language of music
by Kerry M. Kirspel

It should come as no surprise that Marvelle “Yoshi” Brown would choose a career that involved music. Known locally as DJ Yoshi, Brown plays music and entertains crowds at various events, gatherings and fundraisers. He has entertained at local events and has even appeared at such well-known events as the Essence Festival in New Orleans as well as the Super Bowl media party.

A native Shreveporter, Brown grew up in the Cooper Road neighborhood, which he said was “the second-largest black community, next to Harlem. It was like its own little town, just about.”

Music was ... Read more and Like and Share at https://npaper-wehaa.com/forum-news #2025/11/26/?article=4356007

A Story of Survival
Book recounts life of Jewish survivor of WWII
by Mary Ann Van Osdell

Former Shreveporter Nancy Rosenfeld shares an astonishing story in her latest book about her father and his legacy of loss, resilience and the will to continue.

The historical memoir is titled “50 Cents for a Life: A True Story of Surviving by Synchronicity.”

The North Louisiana Jewish Federation is sponsoring Nancy’s visit on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Agudath Achim Synagogue, 9401 Village Green Drive, from 3 to 5 p.m. A question-and-answer session and book signing are part of the activities. The event is free, but please RSVP to [email protected]. A fun and joyful Hanukkah festival follows on the holiday’s first night.

Bernard Rosenfeld was a highly respected leader in the Shreveport Jewish community, a business owner and self-taught artist who miraculously escaped the horrors of WWII Europe.

At 17, Rosenfeld left Lithuania during the early, panicked days of World War II. It was 1939. The youngest of ... Read more and Like and Share at https://npaper-wehaa.com/forum-news #2025/11/26/?article=4356014

Preserving the City's Operating Reserves
Mayor would like to buy new ambulances and patrol units
by Scott "Scooter" Anderson

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux and his administration are working with the city council to put the finishing touches on the city’s 2026 budget. Among the mayor’s top concerns is preserving the city’s 8 percent operating reserves.

Arceneaux conceded that the operating reserve is not an exciting topic of conversation, but it is necessary.

“The operating reserve is a boring topic, but it is a very important topic,” he said. “I do think people need to ... Read more and Share at https://npaper-wehaa.com/forum-news #2025/11/26/?article=4356001

Helping People Cope With Hearing Loss
Las Vegas Night to benefit Deaf Action Center
by Joe Todaro

Writer’s note: The word deaf is capitalized when it is used to describe a class of people. It is lowercase when used as an adjective.

Sound is something you can take for granted. To the Deaf, that is a luxury they are not afforded. The everyday activities we take part in depend on hearing and are greatly affected by its loss.

Imagine being pulled over in traffic by a police officer. (Yes, Deaf can drive. Think of them as people with their EarPods in.) You see the flashing lights in the rear view, but there’s no siren to ... Read more at https://npaper-wehaa.com/forum-news #2025/11/26/?article=4355987 and Like and Share!
