Part 2: April’s report card is in. 🩷
In 6.5 years as a club, this might be one of the most polarizing reads we’ve ever had — and honestly? The discussion proved it from the very first second. It was a clear yay or nay right out of the gate, and everyone felt strongly about their side.
Those who didn’t love it (yours truly included 🙋🏻♀️) had Very Specific Reasons. Those who loved it were equally passionate about the beauty and depth of Tartt’s writing. And somehow that made for one of the most lively, entertaining discussions we’ve had in a long time.
In the end, the hearts won out over the balls — but just barely.
🩷🎱 And although some of us feel like we wasted 24 hours of our life reading a book where nothing happens… we’re still glad we did it. Because well, BOOKCLUB. Obviously.
There’s something kind of magic about a book that splits a room so cleanly. It’s not always about loving what you read — sometimes it’s about what it makes you feel and say and argue about for two hours. That’s what Bookclub is for.
