Fins & Feathers was founded in 2014 with one boat and a small group of Norwich University alumni who shared a passion for sport and a dedication to their alma mater. What began as an informal gathering has since developed into a series of multi-event, multi-region sporting activities that have become among the most successful and fundraising initiatives in Norwich’s history.
Distinct from traditional fundraising programs, Fins & Feathers events are designed to promote camaraderie, build and strengthen relationships, and enhance the alumni experience.
Fins refers to fishing events and gatherings.
Feathers encompasses bird hunts, clay shoots, and other recreational shooting activities.
Together, these programs provide an alternative to conventional formats by offering meaningful opportunities for alumni and friends who enjoy outdoor sports. The initiative was intentionally structured for scalability, with the long-term vision of hosting events in multiple regions across the country. This allows participants to connect with new communities, cultivate lasting friendships, and engage in local sporting traditions.
Since its inception, Fins & Feathers has raised more than $1,000,000 and contributed to multiple scholarships, alumni programs, and on-campus groups. Fins & Feathers initiatives have also raised awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress and supported student growth through programs such as Sophomore Expeditions. These efforts have had a broad and inclusive impact across campus, benefiting men and women, Corps and Civilian students alike.
