It’s about time that California’s executive leadership starts pushing for better male outcomes. For years, the lions’ share of resources has been directed toward identity-politics causes—LGBTQ+, women, and other select groups—while male students, returning adult learners, and working men trying to reskill for a new economy have been left behind. The results are clear: higher dropout rates among men, apathy from institutions, and bureaucratic hostility toward addressing male-specific challenges.
The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) is a prime example of how identity politics has corrupted representative governance. Its Executive Director, Julie Adams, has repeatedly disregarded the actual demographics of the student population, unethically influencing elections, hiding financial allocations, and burning through student fees on lavish hotel ballrooms, conference catering, flights, and perks—while providing little benefit to the students they claim to represent.
Now, the SSCCC wants to inflate its budget from $2 million per semester to $10 million. Californians should demand accountability before handing over another cent. Boot Julie Adams, reform SSCCC, and return focus to students’ real needs—including the thousands of men who are struggling in silence and deserve support in education, career mobility, and life outcomes.
Until then, taxpayers and students alike should say a resounding NO to this budget grab.
It's the latest move by Gov. Gavin Newsom, a likely 2028 presidential candidate, to explore how Democrats can better connect with young men since President Trump's reelection in November.
