Madonna left fans around the globe stunned after appearing to put herself in danger during a surprise Pride performance in Times Square.
The 67-year-old pop icon took part in a special Pride concert hosted by the dating app Grindr, performing on a stage raised several stories above the crowd below.
Although a transparent safety barrier lined the edge of the platform, the Material Girl star boldly swung one leg over the railing.
One dramatic moment on the livestream showed Madonna hovering above the audience, with part of her body onstage while the other leaned beyond the protective barrier.
Concerned fans quickly rushed to X to share their reactions, with one writing: 'the way I screamed "madonna no don't!!!!" when she was hanging over the barricade!'
The comment sparked a flood of similar responses, including: 'That made me so nervous,' 'I was scared to death,' and: 'Fr I was like grandma noooo omg.'
Others joined in, posting: 'BESTIE WE ALL WERE NERVOUS LMAOOOO,' and: 'I WAS LIKE UMMM NOPE WERE NOT DOING THAT.'
Wearing pink and blue corsetry paired with thigh-high boots, Madonna treated fans to several tracks from her forthcoming album Confessions II.
Her set included the new songs I Feel So Free, Bring Your Love, Love Sensation, Get Together, I Love New York and Hung Up.
During one performance, she stood solemnly alongside a group of backup dancers while a slideshow of historic images highlighted the story of the gay rights movement.
She was joined onstage by English DJ Stuart Price, who first collaborated with her on the original Confessions on a Dance Floor album back in 2005.
Price is also producing Confessions II, which is scheduled for release on July 3, the same date Taylor Swift is reportedly set to marry Travis Kelce.
Madonna's brush with danger in Times Square follows another setback she faced weeks earlier during an appearance with Sabrina Carpenter at Coachella.
Carpenter, making her debut as a Coachella headliner, thrilled the crowd by inviting Madonna onstage during her second weekend performance.
Madonna revisited her classics Vogue and Like a Prayer and also delivered Bring Your Love, one of the tracks from Confessions II.
However, the celebration took a turn when Madonna revealed that valuable vintage costume pieces she wore during the performance had disappeared.
Authorities later explained the items 'may have fallen off a golf cart,' adding there was 'no evidence' they 'were intentionally stolen.'
Carpenter's show was a full-scale spectacle inspired by classic entertainment history, drawing influence from 1930s musicals, film noir, Bob Fosse's Cabaret and Samuel L Jackson's Snakes on a Plane.
Her surprise guests included Jackson, Will Ferrell and Sam Elliott, while Susan Sarandon appeared in a monologue as an older version of Carpenter.
