Don’t worry, I took them both out of the nesting boxes. If you don’t take them out, they will sit ALL DAY! We don’t have roosters, so no fertilized eggs to hatch. Need to break the broodiness!

It’s always so exciting the first time you notice a new layer in your flock! 🥳
But I’ll never know who laid it! Lavender Orpington or a Speckled Sussex.

Chicken treat of the day!

Today the girls are getting a simple snack: rinsed canned corn and carrot shavings.

I always rinse canned vegetables to wash away some of the extra sodium before sharing them with the flock. It’s a quick step that gives me peace of mind, and they absolutely love it!

One of my goals this year has been wasting less food.

I went to use my chicken bouillon today only to realize it had expired. It’s frustrating because it’s such a small thing, but little things add up.

It’s a good reminder for me to shop my cupboard first, use what I already have, and be a little more intentional before buying more.

Progress over perfection. 🌿

Our 6 newest gals! I’ve raised them since they were 3 days old and they are now almost 16 weeks old!

Speckled sussex have got to be the cutest and most curious breed I’ve had so far! —> They still need names!

The lavender orpington’s are sweet in their own way and quiet.

Good morning! Miss Dottie came out with the flock this morning! 🙌🏻

Let’s hope the broodiness is wearing off and that I don’t have to remove her from the coop all day. If so, we will resort to a crate with water and food to “cool” her off.

If you haven’t guessed yet, we decided against sneaking baby chicks under her at night and letting her raise them. With where we are at in the middle of summer, we have decided that that experience it’s not the best option at this time. Another heat wave is coming and I need to focus on keeping all my girls happy and healthy!
