Happy Sunday, everybody! Another weak to moderate heatwave is on tap for the next couple of days with high temperatures in the 80s for those in the warmest spots away from the water. Then a weather system will move in during the 2nd half of the week bringing some rain and cooler temperatures!

A ridge of high pressure will build in overhead allowing the skies to clear and temperatures to rise under the sinking air from the Cascades Monday through Wednesday. High temperatures will get into the mid 70s to low 80s on Monday with temperatures climbing a bit more into the mid-80s for the warmest spots on Tuesday. Isolated higher temperatures are possible. Wednesday will be the last very warm to hot day with 80s expected again for the warmest spots across and around Island County. Low temperatures on Monday night and Tuesday night will only get down into the upper 50s to mid-60s so there will be less overnight relief than usual…

Westerly winds will move in Wednesday afternoon/evening bringing in cooler temperatures and gusts up to 30-40mph for those close to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. High temperatures the rest of the week look to remain in the 60s…

While models disagree on the amount of rainfall that we may get, they do agree that the late week weather system will move in sometime during the 2nd half of Thursday and last through at least part of Saturday with on and off rain showers. And looking beyond Saturday the 27th, there doesn’t look to be anything too noteworthy on the way, as of now. Some models show another weaker system while others show some subtle high pressure over the area…

🥵 I'm a little late to this, but we got a short-lived heatwave starting today and lasting through tomorrow (Monday). High temperatures will get well into the 80s with low temperatures remaining quite warm in the upper 50s to low 60s today and tomorrow. We will cool down on Tuesday and Wednesday a little bit, but we look to remain warmer than normal for an extended period of time as a larger ridge of high pressure sets up shop over the West Coast. Temperatures will likely once again climb into the 80s mid-late next week for some areas. No rain is expected this coming week.

Remember to drink plenty of water and take breaks if working outside. Also, remember that even though the air is very warm, the Puget Sound is still quite cold. I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of their Sunday! God bless.

Good evening, everyone! Welcome to Meteorological Summer! After a few very warm and even hot days, Summer is going to switch off for a bit and mild “Juneuary” will take the stage through next week…

A seasonally strong trough of low pressure is currently moving out of the Gulf of Alaska towards our region. This will bring in a cooler air mass, rain showers, and a slight chance of thunderstorms. High temperatures will drop down into the upper 50s for Saturday with low to mid-60s through the first half of next week. Low temperatures will get down into the middle to upper 40s. Scattered rain showers will arrive late tonight into Friday morning and continue through most of Saturday. Due to the seasonably cold air mass aloft, there will be instability for a couple thunderstorms, especially in any convergence zone activity. The best chances for any t-storms will be from about central Whidbey down through the Puget Sound and in the mountains…

We get a break in the rain on Sunday before another trough comes in right behind the first one on Monday. We look to remain dry for at least the first half of Monday before shower chances slowly increase through the evening and especially into Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening…

There is already a growing faint light at the end of the tunnel for those that want more summer weather as models are growing in agreement of a potential heatwave later next weekend. ⛈️❓️Quick weather update for today through early next week!

Widespread thunderstorms with scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are currently developing east of the Cascades. The remnants of some of these could make it into parts of western Washington later this evening into very early tomorrow (Friday) morning, but cooler marine air will likely keep the Whidbey area out of most of the thunderstorm action. Some shower chances will continue into part of Friday before a longer period of dry, sunny weather arrives through the weekend and into early next week!

Gusty to locally strong westerly winds will also occur later tonight through Saturday morning, especially for areas closer to the water and near the Strait of Juan de Fuca where a ***Gale Warning*** is in effect. Gusts up to 35-45mph (locally 50mph) are likely. Isolated power outages are possible, primarily for the North Whidbey area. Regular breezy westerly winds can then be expected most afternoon/evenings from Saturday onwards.

Here are the max wind gusts today across Whidbey! The 35-45mph gusts that I mentioned a couple days ago in the forecast seemed to have been spot on with 45mph being the max at NAS Whidbey. Anyone get any light tree damage? Normally these would not be an issue at all, but it is May with trees in full leaf so the wind can grab hold easier.

Happy Saturday, everybody! The very nice weather is about to come to an abrupt end as we go into next week as a rather strong storm for this time of year moves through the Gulf of Alaska into our region. Rain and gusty winds will accompany it….

Currently, it is a partly cloudy to mostly sunny afternoon with temperatures in the upper 50s to mid-60s across the Whidbey Island area. A westerly breeze is starting to pick up along the Strait of Juan de Fuca as a low-pressure system develops across the Canadian Rockies leading to a west to east pressure gradient over the mountains. A ***Gale Warning*** has been issued for these winds on the Strait. These will continue to pick up this evening with gusts 30-45mph likely for the northern half of Whidbey and other areas along western facing beaches closer to the Strait, Admiralty Inlet, and the Saratoga Passage. These winds will calm down overnight as per usual…

Sunday will be very similar to Saturday but even more enjoyable without the blustery westerly winds…

On Monday, a 978-982mb cyclone will move out of the Gulf of Alaska and weaken as it approaches us. A cold front will bring southerly winds with gusts up to 35-45mph to the area in the morning through sometime in the afternoon. Periods of light to moderate rain will also occur during this time and last through Monday night for some people. We will likely be quite rain shadowed, so it is hard to know just how much rain will make it through into the Whidbey area. High temperatures will be cooler in the upper 50s to low 60s…

Scattered rain showers will continue into Tuesday morning before things mostly clear up as the day progresses with sun likely during the afternoon. High temperatures may be 1-2F warmer than Monday….

We look to dry out on Wednesday and Thursday as some high pressure builds in leading to temperatures getting back well into the 60s for much of the region. Even a few 70s are possible on Thursday!

A disturbance looks to move in around Friday, but models disagree on the exact timing/position of the system. It looks quite a bit weaker than Monday’s system so scattered rain showers would be the main impacts. These could continue into part of the weekend as well. Basically your typical “it’s okay” type of weather. Not the best, but not the worst!

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to put in a quick update that I will have a forecast out this evening. Finally taking a break from traveling and storm chasing for a bit. A late season storm looks to arrive for the PNW in a couple of days so I'll be discussing that and more later today in the forecast. In the meantime, here's the awesome sunset I saw just west of Kansas City last night!

Question for everyone!
I'm about to head out on a long storm chasing trip to the Great Plains to maybe see supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes. Would anyone like me to share my storm chasing adventures on this page (pictures, where I am/going to, what weather I may get, etc)? I'll still be doing my forecasts as per usual, which will always be pinned to the top of the page for those that just want to see those! The storm chasing stuff will just be bonus things. Let me know in the comments!

About 45 minutes ago there was a small thunderstorm on the Olympic Peninsula near Quilcene. Only produced one lightning bolt and then died off. Here's a shot I got of it from Lagoon Point!

As of 6:23PM, we only have a few showers along the Peninsula and starting to move over Admiralty Inlet. Some of these could become thunderstorms at any point, but they will be very hit or miss and won't last long. There will be more thunderstorm chances later tonight as well.
