The spring musical is fast approaching with opening day on April 11. “Alice by Heart” is set in Great Britain during the London Blitz. Alice and her friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in the underground. To escape they travel into Wonderland and travel throughout the story. During their time in wonderland they run the main characters including the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts. Alice uses wonderland as a way to escape Alfred’s tuberculosis quarantine and keep sports in the bunker up.

Many managers are working hard from 4-6 p.m on weekdays preparing the boys for tryouts and the upcoming season. Their specific jobs are to manage social media and keep everything all organized, they help at practices with drills or anytime the coaches need an extra hand. Freshman Stella Bruno is one of the managers for this new team. she played volleyball for the school earlier this year and has now decided to be a manager for the boys volleyball team.

This season, the boys tennis team will experiment with a rise of team divisions. Team divisions help accurately divide teams based on size, so that each team gets an equal chance at playing. Right now there are only two divisions for tennis. The increase to three will try and equalize team sizes and their placements, helping smaller teams compete without being run over by larger teams. This makes for a better environment for prospective players who have little to no experience, and do not have the support of a large coaching staff.

The Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award is an annual award given to an outstanding teacher, nominated by fellow colleagues, students, parents and community members. At Stillwater Area High School, where academic and personal growth are important, there is a teacher who stands out amongst the crowd. Biology teacher Stacy Bartlett has been teaching for over 25 years. She is an inspiration because of her amount of passion, dedication and commitment she has to her students and her job. As a semi-finalist for the 61st Teacher of the Year Award, Bartlett’s impact goes beyond the lesson plan, changing her students’ lives with her creative teaching methods, support and her genuine care for students’ success.
