FACESOFHAITI COVERAGE | Nearly two years in the making, Vinshēk / Vinshēk presented its fourth collection, “The Cacos Collection,” on September 14 at The Arches in Brooklyn, bringing Haitian history into an intimate New York Fashion Week setting.
Created by founder and creative director Garvenchy Nicolas / Garvenchy, the collection centers on the Cacos, the Haitian resistance fighters who defended the country’s sovereignty during the U.S. occupation beginning in 1915. Nicolas and his team also traveled to Haiti during the development process, grounding the project in the land, history and people connected to the story.
The evening opened with a cocktail hour before guests moved upstairs for the runway presentation. The exposed-brick venue was transformed into an environment designed to extend the collection beyond the garments, while Haitian music, live performances and an elegant social atmosphere brought together fashion, culture and community.
Around 150 guests attended, with representation from fashion, entertainment, media, content creation, civic leadership and the broader Haitian community. Approximately 15 to 20 male and female models presented multiple looks from the collection as an energetic audience responded with applause throughout the show.
The presentation continued Vinshēk’s approach of treating fashion as cultural storytelling rather than simply clothing. The brand describes its work as a “living archive,” using design to explore identity, resistance and Haitian history.
Following the runway, Nicolas reflected on the nearly two-year process behind the collection and thanked the team and supporters who helped bring the project to life. The night ended with guests returning to music, conversation, photos and celebration around a collection built as much around memory and sovereignty as fashion •
